A method for encapsulating a seal member insert with plastic material has been provided in which the seal member insert is located precisely in a molded outer housing. There is provided an elongated mold core element having an undercut area at substantially its intermediate area. A first molten plastic is injected around the core element on each side of the undercut area so as to form annular retainer rings. The seal member insert is provided into the undercut area between the annular retainer rings. A second molten plastic is injected around the core element, the annular retainer rings, and the seal member insert so as to form the molded outer housing. The core element is then extracted so as to form a seal-insert molded product. The annular retainer rings serve as wall members so as to prevent the seal member insert from being moved out of the undercut area and into an undesired location when the second molten plastic is being injected.

Insert molding method for a seal member

There is disclosed an improved fastener of the type having a head portion, a shank portion extending from the head portion, and a plastic cover overlying the fastener head. The head includes an outer perimeter of generally square configuration having a plurality of substantially straight side portions. The upper surface of the head is provided with an oversized drive recess which extends along the diagonals of the square perimeter. As a result, the fastener head may be readily aligned within a mold which forms the plastic head cover. More particularly, anyone of the straight side portions may engage an alignment surface of the mold to permit the final drive recess forming portion of the mold to be readily aligned with and received by the initial over sized drive recess. The resulting plastic cover entirely overlies the fastener head and the thickness of the plastic within the oversized recess reduces the drive recess dimension to a final desired size.

Plastic headed fastener

The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein is directed to a one-piece molded fluid filter and a mold construction for making the same. The mold construction is provided with first and second body portions having abutting surfaces forming a parting line. A plurality of axially spaced apart semicircular recesses are formed in the body portions to provide annular recesses in the mold. The parting line of the two body portions passes across the central area of each of the annular recesses. Longitudinal channels are formed in each of the body portions to provide a flow path for the injected resin. A core member having a plurality of axially and radially outwardly directed splines is inserted between the body portions and is dimensioned so that the splines come in direct contact with the lands between the recesses of the mold body portions. A large annular recess is provided centrally of the mold body portions and enables the injected resin to flow from an inlet gate along the longitudinal channels of both body portions to completely fill the mold.

One-piece molded filter

A one-piece plastic fastener for connecting a right angled actuating rod to a lever member. The fastener includes a base member having a rod receiving aperture at one end; a retaining means for associating the fastener with the lever member, the retaining means having a bore co-axial with and communicating with the base aperture and an upstanding wall forming a receptacle on the other side of the base member to receive a right angle end of the actuating rod, the inner wall surfaces having a funnel-like configuration to permit blind insertion of the end of the actuating rod into said aperture and communicating bore. A rigid retaining arm overlying said base in space relation to said aperture and resilient finger means forming a throat with said arm to permit insertion of the actuating rod into retained position under said arm when its right angled end is inserted through the aperture and into the bore of the retaining means.
