A method useful for inhibiting moisture loss from skin comprises the step of administering a composition to a subject's skin. The composition comprises a first humectant and a second humectant different from the first humectant. The humectants are useful for increasing moisture content of the subject's skin, specifically the subject's epidermis. The first humectant may comprise a conventional humectant, e.g. glycerol. The second humectant generally comprises certain types of honey. The honey is capable of inhibiting moisture loss from the subject's epidermis and/or moisture loss from the first humectant when the subject is exposed to dry air conditions, e.g. wintertime air having a relative humidity of about 50% or less. Specifically, the second humectant is useful for mitigating adverse effects of the first humectant under certain conditions. Examples of suitable honeys generally include those comprising the flavanone hesperidin, such as orange blossom honey, buckwheat (blossom) honey, or a combination thereof.

Liquid detergent compositions containing from about 1% to about 90% of a surfactant selected from anionic, nonionic, and amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof are prepared with a hydrotrope that is a mixture of an alcohol ethoxylate and a polyethylene glycol ether of glycerin. The hydrotrope provides increased foam generation. The use of a polyethylene glycol ether of glycerin and an alpha hydroxy acid in a liquid detergent composition further promotes skin improvement and maintains healthy skin of the person using the detergent.

A liquid dishwashing detergent having improved sudsing and cleaning properties includes the combination of selected secondary alkyl sulfates with alkyl ether sulfates. Water spot reduction compositions containing an oxygen bleach, a proteolytic enzyme, and a polyacrylate for use in cleaning dishes and the like in a machine dishwasher. The compositions effectively reduce the presence of water spots which form on dish surfaces and the like during machine dishwashing operations.
