A method of bonding a vulcanized elastomer is provided comprising the steps of; providing an adhesive comprising a primary acrylate monomer, a reactive flexibilizing monomer, and further optionally comprising a toughener, an adhesion promoter and a free radical initiator, then depositing the adhesive on at least one surface of an elastomer or a second substrate, wherein the elastomer is a vulcanized elastomer, then bringing the elastomer substrate and second substrate together with the adhesive disposed therebetween, and allowing the adhesive to cure and bond the elastomer and second substrate together at a temperature of less than about 100&#xb0; C. to produce a bonded structure.

Method for low temperature bonding of elastomers

The coating for substrates or materials, preferably elastomers or elastomers bonded to metal. Emissive coatings for flexible substrates, preferably elastomers or elastomers bonded to metal are disclosed The coating composition is formed by combining parts (a) and (b) where part (a) comprises an organic solution or aqueous dispersion of a functional group containing polymer or copolymer and thermal conductive filler; and part (b) comprises a liquid curing component, for example a poly isocyanate, a carbodiimide, or an amino resin. The coating compounds can be applied to an substrate either before or after the substrate has been vulcanized. The coatings can be cured at ambient temperatures and provide heat dissipation over long term service at elevated temperatures.

Flexible emissive coatings for elastomer substrates

Cyclic acetal derivative of a resole includes the reaction product of an ortho resole compound with a carbonyl compound or a carbonyl compound derivative. The cyclic acetal derivatives of phenolic resole compounds exhibit enhanced storage stability and can be readily activated at elevated temperatures to prepare phenolic based adhesives and coatings.

An adhesion promoting composition for enhancing adhesion between an elastomeric substrate and a metal surface which, when applied at least in substantial contact with the metal surface, produces an elastomer-metal adhesive bond that withstands high temperature fluid and corrosive material environments and that can be applied without extensive pretreatment of the metal surface. The adhesion promoting composition comprises a phenolic resin derived from a first phenolic component, a second phenolic component, and a formaldehyde source, wherein the first phenolic component is a monohydroxy aromatic compound, a dihydroxy aromatic compound or a combination thereof, and the second phenolic component is a trihydroxy aromatic compound. A two-part adhesive composition containing a primer component and an overcoat component is also disclosed. The primer component contains the adhesion promoting composition and a first halogenated polyolefin while the overcoat component contains a second halogenated polyolefin and a nitroso compound.

A chemical formulation useful as a coating, primer or adhesive including a linear polyester polyurethane, a halogenated polyolefin, a phenolic resin, and a cross-linker. The formulation is preferably utilized as a two-component adhesive for bonding polymer blend-based thermoplastic elastomers to various substrates such as metal.
