Described is an aqueous binder composition for mineral fibers which comprises a component (i) in the form of one or more carbohydrates and a component (ii) in the form of one or more compounds selected from sulfamic acid, derivatives of sulfamic acid, salts thereof.

The invention relates to an aqueous binder composition for mineral fibers comprising a component (i) in the form of one or more compounds selected from &#x2014;compounds of the formula, and any salts thereof. In which R1 corresponds to H, alkyl, monohydroxyalkyl, dihydroxyalkyl, polyhydroxyalkyl, alkylene, alkoxy, amine; &#x2014;compounds of the formula, and any salts thereof. In which R2 corresponds to H, alkyl, monohydroxyalkyl, dihydroxyalkyl, polyhydroxyalkyl, alkylene, alkoxy, amine; a component (ii) in the form of one or more compounds selected from the group of ammonia, amines or any salts thereof; a component (iii) in the form of one or more carbohydrates.

The present invention is directed to a solid state binder composition for binding mineral fibers comprising a component (i) in form of one or more carbohydrates; a component (ii) in form of one or more compounds selected from sulfamic acid, derivatives of sulfamic acid or any salt thereof.

Mineral fiber products, in particular rigid bonded mineral fiber products, are provided which comprise composite mineral fibers having a coating-core configuration wherein the core provides at least 90% by weight of the fibers and is formed of mineral melt and the coating is coated onto the core. The mineral melt is chosen so that the fibers without coating have adequate biological solubility and the coating comprises a phosphate or hydrogen phosphate of alkali metal, quaternary ammonium or ammonium in an amount of at least 0.3% or by weight of the core. The coated fibers retain their biological solubility while improving resistance to ageing in use.
