A heat exchanger including a fluid circuit in which an incoming fluid stream is progressively divided into multiple smaller streams, each of which delivers the heat exchange fluid into one or more heat exchange sections of the device; and/or in which multiple fluid streams of the fluid circuit are discharged from one or more heat exchanger sections, each of which are progressively combined into one or more larger streams before exiting the device. The heat exchanger may have a thin body portion and a thick body portion and may adapt a depth of the fluid circuit to the changes in thickness of the heat exchanger body. The heat exchanger may form a structural component and may integrate multiple materials to provide both heat exchange and structural functionality into a single device. Other structural fluid transfer devices having fluid flow and structural functionality also are provided.

Heat exchanger with progressive divided flow circuit, structural load bearing design

Provided is an injector () having a plurality of injector modules () that include a spray cup having a chamber and a plurality of radial air passages for directing air radially into the chamber, and a pressure swirl atomizer attached to the spray cup and having a fluid passage for directing fluid axially into chamber and an air passage for directing air axially into the chamber. By providing radial and axial air flow and axial fuel flow into the chamber, the fuel may be mixed to prevent local hot spots that lead to high NOx emissions, and a stable flame may be maintained without autoignition and flashback. The axial air flow also prevents recirculation zones from forming at a base of the spray cup, provides improved atomization and enhanced combustion.

Direct injection multipoint nozzle

A nozzle assembly comprises a first-fuel-inlet tube, a second-fuel-inlet tube, and a plate stack. The nozzle-plate stack () defines a central circuit, corner air circuits, a first fuel circuit and a second fuel circuit. The fuel circuits include a swirl chamber in which the fuel is swirled prior to being merged with the central circuit. The corner air circuits merge with the central circuit downstream of the fuel circuits' merge and provide an additional swirling component to further shape the fuel-air stream prior to ignition.

Nozzle assembly

An injector assembly includes a barrel-shaped housing and an injector, the injector including a feed ring formed of multiple, etched, T-shaped plates. A plurality of nozzles are arranged in an evenly-spaced array around the injector and direct fluid radially inward into the central annulus of the injector assembly. The injector includes an air inlet port with an internal feed passage fluidly connected to swirl chambers and exit orifices to provide individual sprays of fuel from the nozzles. Integral air swirlers impart a swirling component of motion to the fuel sprays. A venturi configuration is provided by the housing. The nozzles are provided along the venturi configuration, which maintains fluid separation from the walls of the housing downstream from the venturi.

Macrolaminate radial injector

A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine has an inlet fitting, a fuel nozzle, and a housing stem with a pair of fuel conduits fluidly interconnecting the nozzle and fitting. The fuel nozzle includes an annular secondary fuel passageway directing fuel from one fuel conduit to an annular discharge orifice at a discharge end of the nozzle. The secondary fuel passageway is defined between an outer, annular fuel conduit portion and a primary adapter. The primary adapter has an outer surface with a distinct, radially-outwardly-projecting annular shoulder to restrict flow through the secondary passageway and provide substantially uniform distribution of flow through the passageway downstream of the shoulder, for improved combustion and flame stability.

Nozzle with flow equalizer

A fuel nozzle for dispensing an atomized fluid spray into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. The nozzle includes a body assembly with an inner fuel passage and an annular outer atomizing air passage. An array of turning vanes is disposed within the outer fuel passage. Each of the vanes is configured generally in the shape of an airfoil in having a pressure side and an opposing suction side, the suction side of each vane being spaced-apart from a juxtaposing pressure side of an adjacent vane to define a corresponding one of a plurality of aligned air flow channels therebetween. Fuel is directed through the fuel flow channels to be issued from the nozzle as a generally helical flow having a substantial uniform velocity profile.

Fuel nozzle for turbine combustion engines having aerodynamic turning vanes

A fuel nozzle for dispensing an atomized fluid spray into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. The nozzle includes a body assembly with an inner fuel passage and an annular outer atomizing air passage. The inner fuel passage extends axially along a longitudinal axis to a first terminal end defining a first discharge orifice of the nozzle. The outer air passage extends coaxially with the inner fuel passage along the longitudinal axis to a second terminal end disposed concentrically with the first terminal end and defining a second discharge orifice oriented such that the discharge therefrom impinges on the fuel discharge from the first discharge orifice. An array of turning vanes is disposed within the outer air passage in a circular locus about the longitudinal axis. Each of the vanes is configured generally in the shape of an airfoil and has a pressure side and an opposing suction side. The vanes extend axially from a leading edge surface to a tapering trailing edge surface along a corresponding array of chordal axes, each of axes is disposed at a given turning angle to the longitudinal axis. The suction side of each vane is spaced-apart from a juxtaposing pressure side of an adjacent vane to define a corresponding one of a plurality of aligned air flow channels therebetween. Atomizing air is directed through the air flow channels to be issued from the second discharge orifice as a generally helical flow having a substantial uniform velocity profile.
