The present disclosure relates to an orthopedic implant that may be used to repair and/or replace focal defects in an individual's articular cartilage. In one exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides a unitary orthopedic implant that includes a bone contacting layer and an articulating layer. In exemplary embodiments, the bone contacting layer may have a thickness of between about 1 millimeter and 3 millimeters. In exemplary embodiments, the articulating layer may have a thickness of between about 1 millimeter and 2 millimeters. As a result, the orthopedic implant may have an overall thickness of between about 2 millimeters and about 5 millimeters.

Unitary orthopedic implant

An acetabular implant for hip replacement surgery includes a shell component and first and second alternative bearing components interchangeably engageable with the shell component to provide a choice in bearing components. The shell component has a shell component engagement mechanism suitable for engaging the first alternative bearing component. A conversion ring is also engageable with the shell component, so that a shell component/conversion ring assembly provides a second shell component engagement mechanism suitable for engagement with the second alternative bearing component.

Acetabular cup conversion ring

An acetabular implant for hip replacement surgery includes a shell component and first and second alternative bearing components interchangeably engageable with the shell component to provide a choice in bearing materials. The shell component has an engagement mechanism suitable for locking engagement with the first alternative shell component. A conversion ring is lockingly engageable with the shell component to adapt the shell component to provide an engagement mechanism suitable for locking engagement with the second alternative shell component.

A hip stem centralizer datum guide and method are provided for positioning a proximal portion of a hip stem component within bone cement in an intramedullary canal of a femur. The datum guide is positionable in a predetermined position relative to the intramedullary canal and is able to create a datum that records the predetermined hip stem component position relative to the intramedullary canal. The datum is able to be referenced to position the hip stem component in the predetermined hip stem component position in the bone cement in the intramedullary canal.

Hip stem centralizer datum guide, and method

A modular knee system having various distal posterior femoral components that are interchangeable with each other and with various patellar-femoral joint components. Preferably, the modular knee system has a variety of components that are interchangeable and connectable to resurface the distal femur using either a unicompartmental femoral knee prosthesis or a bicompartmental femoral knee prosthesis. These components include a medial distal posterior femoral component, a lateral distal posterior femoral component, a patellar-femoral joint component, and an interconnection mechanism to modularly connect the components together.

Modular knee prosthesis

A modular prosthetic knee system used to replace the natural knee. The system includes a femoral knee prosthesis and a tibial knee prosthesis. Both prostheses are formed of modular components that are connectable in-vivo to form the prosthetic knee system. The femoral knee prosthesis includes two separate components, a lateral condyle and medial condyle; and the tibial knee prosthesis includes a multiple separate components, a medial baseplate, a lateral baseplate, a medial insert, and a lateral insert. The medial and lateral baseplate are connectable to form a complete baseplate with the medial and lateral inserts connectable to the complete baseplate.

A prosthetic acetabular component for a hip joint that is inserted into a bone cavity of the natural acetabulum. The acetabular component consists of an articulating component and a constraining component. The articulating component has a hemispherical or dome shape that defines a hemispherical cavity for receiving a femoral ball of a femoral hip stem. The constraining component has a body that connects to the articulating component to capture the femoral ball within the cavity of the articulating component. A locking mechanism connects the constraining component to the articulating component.

Constrained acetabular liner

A variety of surgical instruments facilitate implantation of a femoral stem component of an implantable prosthesis. A skeletal member is prepared by securing a reamer in the member. A broach is mounted on the reamer for broaching the member. A variety of adapters are selectively used with a head trial to check for location of the head trial. After trial placement is satisfactory, the instruments are removed so that the prosthesis can be implanted.

Instruments for forming bony cavity for implantable femoral, hip

A set of modular components from among which an implantable orthopedic hip prosthesis can be assembled. First and second implantable orthopedic femoral hip stem prosthesis each have a neck, the neck having a male conical taper surface. An implantable orthopedic femoral head prosthesis has a female conical taper surface. The respective male and female conical taper surfaces are sized and configured for mutual taper-locked interconnection if engaged, but at least one of the first and second implantable orthopedic femoral hip stem prosthesis is keyed in combination with the implantable orthopedic femoral head prosthesis to prevent engagement of the respective male conical taper surface with the female conical taper surface.

An orthopaedic holding forceps 1 for simultaneously holding a screw 60 and a screwdriver 70. The forceps 1 includes a distal tip 42 having an upper chamber 43 adapted for receiving an enlarged gripping head 72 of the screwdriver 70 and a lower chamber 44 adapted for receiving the enlarged head 61 of screw 60. The distal tip 42 also includes an interconnecting chamber 45 between the upper and lower chambers 43 and 44 adapted for receiving the distal driving tip 73 of the screwdriver 70.

Orthopaedic holding forceps

An acetabular cup inserting instrument includes a first handle and a second handle rotatable about and extending from the first handle. The second handle is ratchetable about the first handle and selectively lockable in a desired position with respect to the first handle. The ratchet mechanism of the second handle includes a biased pawl that engages radially spaced notches on the first handle.
