Methods, devices, and systems are provided for improving efficiency of power quality and revenue-based computations which include receiving an input signal and oversampling the input signal to generate an oversampled data stream. In a first signal path, the oversampled data stream is filtered to generate a filtered data stream, and the filtered data stream is decimated to generate a decimated data stream. The filtered data stream and the decimated data stream include waveform data capable of use for generating power quality analysis information. In a second signal path, the oversampled data stream is downsampled to generate a downsampled data stream, and revenue quality power consumption data is generated based at least in part upon meta data from the downsampled data stream. Power quality data is generated based at least in part upon the decimated data stream and associated meta data.

Efficient implementation of revenue and power quality functions on a processing device

A method for removing low frequency offset components from a digital data stream includes receiving, at an input of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), an analog input signal from one or more analog front end components. The analog input signal has an associated low frequency offset due, at least in part, to the analog front end components. The method also includes generating, at an output of the ADC, a digital data stream representative of the analog input signal. The digital data stream having an associated low frequency offset due, at least in part, to the analog front end components and/or the ADC. One or more low pass infinite impulse response (IIR) filters are applied to the digital data stream to detect the low frequency offset components in the digital data stream, and generate a filtered output signal with only the low frequency offset components present. A corrected digital data stream without the low frequency offset components is generated in response thereto, for example, by taking the difference of the filtered output signal from the digital data stream.

Systems and methods for removing low frequency offset components from a digital data stream

A method for improving frequency response of a high-speed data acquisition device includes sampling signals received at an input of the high-speed data acquisition device at a first sampling rate and generating a digital data stream representative of the sampled input signals. The digital data stream is interpolated to generate an interpolated digital signal with a higher sample rate than the first sampling rate, and one or more finite impulse response (FIR) filters are applied to the interpolated digital signal to generate a filtered digital signal. The filtered digital signal corrects for: parasitic and/or expected response of elements from the network of resistors and capacitors in the anti-aliasing filter in the high-speed data acquisition device, and select anti-aliasing filter response characteristics. The filtered digital signal is decimated to reduce the sampling rate of the filtered digital signal and generate a decimated digital signal.

Systems and methods for improving frequency response of a high-speed data acquisition device

A measurement circuit for monitoring at least one parameter of an input signal received from an external signal source includes at least one first measurement element coupled to the input signal and configured to provide an initial measurement signal indicative of a respective one or more of the at least one parameter of the input signal. At least one second measurement element is positioned proximate to the at least one first measurement element and configured to have a characteristic indicative of a stress condition associated with the at least one first measurement element. A compensation circuit is responsive to an output of the at least one second measurement element and to a reference signal to generate a compensation factor that is applied to the initial measurement signal to provide a corrected measurement signal.

An analog to digital converter is coupled to receive a signal indicative of the analog output signal and a reference voltage and configured to generate a digital output signal representative of the analog output signal. A compensation circuit is responsive to an output of at least one second measurement element and to a reference signal to generate a compensation signal indicative of a difference between the output of the at least one second measurement element and the reference signal. A voltage level of the reference voltage is adjusted in response to the compensation signal.

An apparatus for varying the timing of a SMPS, including a microcontroller configured to output a first PWM signal. A converter is coupled to the microcontroller and is configured to receive the first PWM signal and output an analog signal to a SMPS timing capacitor coupled to a SMPS. The analog signal varies the discharge time of the timing capacitor to vary a switching frequency of the SMPS.

Low EMI producing switch-mode power supply within an intelligent electronic device

A power meter for measuring power parameters on one or more electrical power lines/loads is configured to include a revenue class metering module and a power quality metering module. The revenue class metering module and the power quality metering module may use the same measured voltage and current signals to generate revenue accurate power consumption information and power quality information, respectively. The power meter may also include a plurality of filters configured to attenuate high frequency signals included in the voltage and current signals. Each of the filters may be configured with a corner frequency, gain and signal propagation delay that is substantially equal. The filtered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the revenue class metering module, and the power quality metering module to generate revenue accurate power consumption information and power quality information, respectively. Alternatively, the filtered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the power quality metering module to generate power quality information, and unfiltered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the revenue class metering module to generate revenue accurate power consumption information.
