A curable composition is disclosed. The curable composition comprises (I) an epoxide-functional silicone-acrylate polymer and (II) an aminosiloxane. The epoxide-functional silicone-acrylate polymer comprises acrylate-derived monomeric units comprising siloxane moieties, epoxide-functional moieties, and optionally, hydrocarbyl moieties, and the aminosiloxane comprises an average of at least two amine functional groups per molecule. A method of preparing the curable composition is also disclosed, and includes reacting (A) an acryloxy-functional organosilicon component, (B) an epoxy-functional acrylate component, and optionally (C) an acrylate component, to give the epoxide-functional silicone-acrylate polymer (I), and combining the epoxide-functional silicone-acrylate polymer (I) with the aminosiloxane (II). An aminosiloxane-silicone-acrylate copolymer prepared with the composition, a cured product comprising the same, and methods of preparing the same, are also disclosed.

A curable coating composition is provided having multi-functionalized acrylic copolymer and amino-functional silicone resin curing agents. The acrylic copolymer of the curable coating composition has, in polymerized form, epoxy functionalized groups and cure compatibility groups and the amino-functional silicone resin is an alkoxy functional siloxane, which optionally is derived from sterically hindered alcohol-amine precursor moieties. The coating compositions are useful in the field of superior weatherable and durable coatings and are useful to replace isocyanate-containing polyurethane based coatings. Also provided are coated articles produced from the curable composition.

The present invention relates to a method comprising the steps of: a) contacting an acrylate monomer, a carboxylic acid monomer, and a chain transfer agent under free radical polymerization conditions to form a solution of a polymer having an Min the range of from 5,000 to 50,000 Daltons; b) contacting the solution with a base and an ethylenically unsaturated glycidyl functionalized monomer to form a solution of an ethylenically unsaturated acrylate polymer; c) contacting the solution of the ethylenically unsaturated functionalized acrylate polymer with water to form an aqueous dispersion of ethylenically unsaturated functionalized acrylate polymers; and d) removing the organic solvent. The method of the present invention provides a composition suitable for use as a UV curable coating that achieves an excellent balance of hardness, flexibility, and warmth with less reliance on costly MFAs.

Method for preparing a UV curable coating composition

The present invention relates to a method comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles having a backbone comprising structural units of an acrylate monomer and a carboxylic acid monomer, wherein a portion of the structural units of the carboxylic acid monomer are functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate, wherein the glycidyl methacrylate functionalized polymer particles have a number average molecular weight in the range of 5,000 to 50,000 Daltons. The composition of the present invention provides a UV curable coating that achieves an excellent balance of hardness and flexibility, with less reliance on the use of multifunctional acrylates.

Method of controlling block copolymer characteristics and articles manufactured therefrom

Disclosed herein is a block copolymer comprising a first block derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer; where the vinyl aromatic monomer has at least one alkyl substitution on an aromatic ring; a second block derived from a siloxane monomer; where a chi parameter that measures interactions between the first block and the second block is 0.03 to 0.18 at a temperature of 200&#xb0; C. Disclosed herein is a method comprising polymerizing a vinyl aromatic monomer to form a first block; and polymerizing a second block onto the first block to form a block copolymer; where the second block is derived by polymerizing a siloxane monomer; and where the block copolymer has a chi parameter of 0.03 to 0.18 at a temperature of 200&#xb0; C.; where the chi parameter is a measure of interactions between the first block and the second block of the copolymer.

Methods for annealing block copolymers and articles manufactured therefrom

Poly(glycolide) polymers are disclosed. The polymers generally include a polymerized alkynyl-substituted glycolide having a polymer backbone with one or more alkynyl groups appended thereto. The alkynyl groups provide reactive sites for further functionalization of the polymer, for example by reaction with azide derivatives (e.g., azide-substituted organic compounds). Alkynyl and azide groups react via the 'click' chemistry mechanism to form functional groups covalently bonded to the polymer via a triazole link. The polymers are biodegradable and can be used to deliver drugs or other therapeutic substances (e.g., large biomolecules such as single strand RNA) at targeted locations in a patient's body and/or at controlled release rates.

Functionalization of polyglycolides by 'click' chemistry

A copolymer composition is provided including a block copolymer having a poly(acrylate) block and a poly(silyl acrylate) block; wherein the block copolymer exhibits a number average molecular weight, M, of 1 to 1,000 kg/mol; and, wherein the block copolymer exhibits a polydispersity, PD, of 1 to 2.
