A method of tracking and reporting the velocity of a hand-held paint spray gun. The object to be painted is placed in a room having one or more fiducial walls. A camera is installed on the spray gun, with its field of view toward the one or more fiducial walls. As the object is painted, the camera detects fiducials, calculates their current position, and compares current positions to previous locations to determine movement and velocity. The current velocity is compared to a stored target velocity, and audible or visible feedback is provided to the spray gun operator.

A high-precision corrosion monitoring sensor assembly is provided for permanent mounting on a vessel to measure wall thickness of the vessel. The assembly includes an ultrasonic transducer and a delay line, which are bonded to the vessel wall a first location. The assembly is further bonded to the vessel by an adjustable fixture. The assembly includes a cross-member attached to the ultrasonic transducer, having a pivot pin at each distal end. The pivot pins are attached to a first tower and a second tower, which bond to the outer vessel wall at a second location and a third location. The position of the first and second towers can be adjusted with respect to angle and placement about the pivot pins. Fasteners are attached to the pivot pins and can be tightened to make rigid the fixture, thereby allowing configuration of the assembly for use on flat surfaces and small-diameter pipes.

High precision corrosion monitoring sensor assembly and system

A method of testing for defects in the bottom of an above ground storage tank, the tank bottom having a lip extending outwardly from the tank wall around the circumference of the tank. A special magnetostrictive sensor is designed to be placed on this lip. The sensor is placed over a strip of magnetostrictive material, which generally conforms in length and width to the bottom of the probe, with a couplant being applied between the strip and the lip surface. The sensor is then operated in pulse echo mode to receive signals from defects in the bottom of the tank. It is incrementally moved around the circumference of the tank.

A structure and system are described which include the use of a combination container for sequentially dispensing multiple fluids onto a removable applicator device. A preferred application of the invention is with the sequential dispensing of a quantity of disinfecting solution over a toothbrush, followed by the dispensing of a measured quantity of toothpaste onto the toothbrush. The device is constructed in a double walled cylindrical (circular or non-circular) configuration with a hollow plunger component coaxially positioned within the cylindrical walls. Beneath the plunger component is contained a quantity of disinfectant solution such that when the plunger is directed downward the disinfectant solution is forced upward between the walls of the double walled container and through dispensing ports directed into the interior where the applicator is positioned. The contained motion of the plunger component downward under the directed force of the applicator brings the base of the hollow plunger into contact with the base wall of the container and causes the collapse of the hollow plunger. A second liquid/gel contained within the hollow plunger is then directed up and out of its enclosed volume through ports aligned with the applicator. The design is intended to accommodate a wide variety of compounds and applicators. Wherever the dispensing of two different compounds (liquids/gels) is required in a sequential manner, the present invention finds applicability.

Container for sequentially dispensing multiple fluids onto an applicator device

An economical, flexible, magnetostrictive sensor (MsS) probe assembly for use on longitudinal cylindrical structures, for guided-wave, volumetric inspection of the structures is described. The paired flexible plate MsS probes each include a flexible strip of magnetostrictive material that is positioned and/or adhered to the base of a generally flat, flexible, conductor coil assembly, preferably with an elastomeric adhesive. The conductor coil assembly has a core composed of a thin flexible layer of metal and a thin bendable permanent magnet circuit. The flexible core is surrounded by a flat flexible cable (FFC) that is folded and looped over the layers of the core. The exposed conductors at the ends of the FFC are shifted from each other by one conductor spacing and joined together so that the parallel conductors in the FFC form a flat, flexible, continuous coil. The probe assemblies may preferably be utilized in pairs and conformed to match the curved contours of the cylindrical surface of the structure under investigation in a manner that is specifically tailored for wire rope, cable, and anchor rod type applications.
