A system includes: a sensor configured to detect electrical signals of a cable section for transmitting electrical energy; a processor; a data memory; and a signal interface. The data memory stores a set of curves with an associated distance to the sensor and representing a pulse response of an electrical pulse predetermined by a cable model as a result of a modeled partial discharge at the associate distance. The sensor detects a discharge signal caused by an actual partial discharge on the cable section, and transmits a measurement signal to the processor. Based on the first measurement signal, the processor determines which among the curves in the set correlates best with the first discharge signal, as the first discharge curve. The processor determines a sensor distance between the actual partial discharge and the sensor based on the distance associated with the discharge curve. The signal interface transmits the sensor distance.

A method analyzes the state of an electrical operating resource. The method includes: applying a test voltage to the operating resource; acquiring a measurement signal at a connection point of the operating resource; ascertaining transfer parameters that characterize a signal transmission from a location of a partial discharge in the operating resource to the connection point depending on the measurement signal; and determining at least one characteristic variable of the partial discharge depending on the transfer parameters.

State analysis of an electrical operating resource

A method measures partial discharge pulses of a shielded cable, which has a core and a sheath. The method includes: connecting a coupling capacitor with a first connecting point of the core; providing a first, second, and third coupling unit, each having an input and a signal output; connecting the input of the first coupling unit with the coupling capacitor; connecting the input of the second coupling unit with a first connecting point of the sheath; connecting the input of the third coupling unit with a second connecting point of the sheath; providing a test voltage at the first connecting point of the core; acquiring respective measurement signals of the coupling units at their signal outputs; and determining at least one characteristic value for an apparent charge of a partial discharge pulse of the cable in dependence on the measurement signals.
