The invention relates to a device comprising a multilayered structure with a first portion and a second portion wherein the first portion is conceived to be rolled about a first roller, said device comprising a second roller for receiving the second portion for at least partially counteracting the effects of mechanical strain induced in the multilayered structure upon said rolling. The first roller is rotated in a first direction, whereby the second roller is rotated in a second direction. Preferably, the diameters of the first roller and the second roller are equal. Alternatively, the edge portions A, B of the multilayer structure are suitably interconnected by stoppers for preventing creeping.

Device comprising a multilayer structure and rollers

An electro-optic display is produced using a sub-assembly comprising a front sheet, an electro-optic medium; and an adhesive layer. An aperture is formed through the adhesive layer where the adhesive layer is not covered by the electro-optic medium, and the sub-assembly is adhered to a backplane having a co-operating member with the aperture engaged with a co-operating member, thus locating the sub-assembly relative to the backplane. In another form of electro-optic display, a chip extends through an aperture in the electro-optic medium and adhesive layer. In a third form, the aforementioned sub-assembly is secured to a backplane and then a cut is made through both backplane and sub-assembly to provide an aligned edge.

Electro-optic displays, and materials and methods for production thereof

A device (B) is described for driving a bistable display (A). The device includes a processor () for receiving an input signal indicative for a desired luminance of said at least one pixel. The device also includes a controller () for determining a sequence of voltage levels to achieve a transition from a present luminance to the desired luminance. The device further includes a voltage generator () for generating the sequence of voltage levels. A portion of the sequence is selected from a plurality of mutually different sequence portions, to achieve mutually different luminance transitions. At least a first and a second of this plurality of sequence portions mutually have a same set of voltage levels and have the voltage levels from that set occurring the same number of times, but have the voltage levels in that set occur in a mutually different order.

Method and apparatus for driving an electronic display and a system comprising an electronic display

A stacked display () comprises superposed regions for changing between a reflective color state (R, G, B) and a transparent state, which regions form part of a&#x2dc;bended substrate (). The substrate () may comprise a sequence of portions (-) which forms regions having pre-defined color. Each portion (-) is electrically connected to a further portion in the sequence by interconnect regions (b', c&#x2032;, d&#x2032;) which form an oversized loop between the regions (---) when the substrate () is bent. The regions (---) are filled with a suitable optoelectronic color material (R, G, B).

Stacked display with a bended substrate, an electronic apparatus and a method for manufacturing the same

The invention relates to a display structure comprising an electrode layer () superposed on a sub-layer () wherein a surface of the sub-layer facing the electrode layer is roughened. In particular, the display structure may relate to a TFT stack comprising a layer of an electrode metal corresponding to a pixel electrode (). The pixel pad together with the data line () is used for charging of the pixel pad. The gate electrode () used is separated from the source and drain electrode () by a dielectric layer (). The structural layers of the TFT may be deposited on a suitable flexible substrate (). In order to prevent defects in the light modulating layer () from being visible, a surface of the sub-layer () underlying the electrode layer () is roughened. It is desirable to provide such improvement to, among others, electrophoretic-type displays and liquid crystal-type displays.

A medium () having embedded therein a plurality of electrophoretic display elements () is controlled by a first and a second pixel electrode (). Flexible display and a method of manufacturing a flexible display

A display device is described with a plurality of pixels, each having a pixel state that is driven by a driving voltage differential between a pixel voltage applied to a pixel terminal of the pixel and a common voltage applied to a common terminal of the pixel. In a first pixel driving state, wherein pixels are driven to a first color, a common voltage is provided to the common terminals with a first polarity. In a second pixel driving state, wherein pixels are driven to a second color, a common voltage is provided to the common terminals with a second polarity opposite to the first polarity. An absolute value of the common voltage in the first and second pixel driving state is higher than a maximum absolute value of the column voltage in the corresponding pixel driving state.

Super low voltage driving of displays

Pixel control structure for use in a backplane for an electronic display, including a transistor that has a gate, a source, a drain, and an organic semiconductor element. The pixel control structure is formed by a first patterned conductive layer portion, a second patterned conductive layer portion, a dielectric layer portion, and an organic patterned semiconductive layer portion. The dielectric layer portion comprises an overlap region defined by overlap of the second conductive layer portion over the first conductive layer portion. The overlap region defines an overlap boundary, defined by an edge portion of the first patterned conductive layer portion and an edge portion of the second patterned conductive layer portion. The patterned semiconductive layer portion extends over the overlap region and away from the overlap region so as to extend from both first and second edge portions.

Pixel control structure, array, backplane, display, and method of manufacturing

A lookup table provides voltage waveforms for transitions between a plurality of discrete pixel states forming a set that can be ordered in consecutive states according to a reflectivity of the pixel. An image controller repeatedly executes, in a consecutive drive phase, the steps of retrieving an initial state and update state, matching, when the initial and update states are different, in the ordered set of pixel states of the lookup table, a consecutive state and a corresponding consecutive waveform, the consecutive state forming a path, according to the consecutive drive phase, from the initial state to the update state in the set of pixel states, storing the consecutive state in the memory as new initial state; and controlling a voltage driver to drive the pixel from the initial state to the consecutive state using said consecutive waveform.

Consecutive driving of displays

A method of controlling an electronic display having a plurality of pixels settable in a first operating level, a second operating level and an intermediate operating level, the method comprising the step of setting the pixels in a preparatory intermediate operating level immediately prior to setting the pixels in a desired intermediate operating state. At an end of a frame i&#x2212;1, for example, it is possible to drive a pixel from a level P0 further towards white to reach reflection level Pn or to stop driving it, or to switch a control voltage to an apposite polarity and arrive at a lower level. Levels P1 and P2 present embodiments of preparatory intermediate levels used to drive pixels in accordance with the invention. For example, levels 2, 4, and 6 may be obtained from the preparatory level P1. Levels 3, 5, and 7 may be obtained from the preparatory level P2.
