A stereotactic surgical instrument for use in stereotactical therapy and surgery and a coupling mechanism for such an instrument is disclosed. The stereotactic surgical instrument includes a semi-circular arc part and a head frame. The head frame is arranged for fixation to a head of a patient by pins or screws. The arc part includes coupling members shaped as rings arranged at a fixed distance from each other for attaching and locking the arc part to the head frame. The head frame includes support members formed as rings for receiving corresponding coupling members. Each coupling member includes a pivotable clamp element arranged to partly surround a respective support member circumferentially when the arc part is coupled to the head frame. The coupling members include locking elements arranged to receive a tip portion of the respective clamp element and adjustable locking knobs for tightening and locking respective coupling member to respective support member.

Stereotactic surgical instrument

A frame for fixation of equipment to the head of a patient during neurological diagnosis, therapy or surgery is adapted to enclose the head of the patient. The frame includes a number of mounting slots arranged in the frame. The mounting slots are adapted to receive a number of fixation pins adapted to fixate the frame to a bone in the head. The frame further includes two anterior longitudinal posts and two posterior longitudinal posts, extending along a longitudinal axis A, an anterior portion, adapted to be arranged at the anterior side of the head, the anterior portion interconnecting the two anterior longitudinal posts, and a posterior portion, adapted to be arranged at the posterior side of the head, the posterior portion interconnecting the two posterior longitudinal posts. The anterior longitudinal posts and the posterior longitudinal posts are interconnected with two lateral portions, adapted to extend one on each side of the head, and wherein the lateral portions are axially offset, along the longitudinal axis A, with respect to the anterior and posterior portion. A stereotactic frame system includes such a frame.

A method for packing a media bed in a column (). According to the invention the method comprises the steps of: providing data to a control unit () connected to the column (), said data comprising at least a measured slurry concentration, a target bed height, a target packing factor or compression factor and minimum and maximum acceptable values for at least one of target bed height and target packing or compression factor; forcing a movable adapter () along a longitudinal axis of the column () in order to pack the media; detecting when the media bed is consolidated; the control unit () processing the provided data and the information about the consolidated bed height in order to present to the user acceptable bed heights, if there are any, giving acceptable packing or compression factors.
