A system includes two counter-rotating electric fans. A cooling controller is configured to run the fans at first and second operating points responsive to a measured value of a parameter. The first and second operating points correspond to first and second different required volumes per unit time of air flow. Rotational speeds of the fans at the first and second operating points define first and second different rotational speed offsets.

Latch systems for a drive cage assembly are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the latch system may be operated by moving a hinge bracket in a first direction to slide at least one latch on the hinge bracket into an open position. Then receiving a peripheral device in the drive cage assembly in either a tower orientation or a rack orientation when the at least one latch is in the open position. Then moving the hinge bracket in a second direction to slide the at least one latch into a closed position and secure the peripheral device in the drive cage assembly.

A computer system comprising a computer chassis supporting at least one electronic component, the computer chassis having a volume and at least one interactive surface; an indicator panel supported by the computer chassis and coupled to the electronic component, the indicator panel having a display and an outer edge; wherein the indicator panel comprises a first position wherein the indicator panel is received within an aperture in the interactive surface, the indicator panel and the display are disposed within the chassis volume, and the outer edge is exposed and indicates a condition of the electronic component.

The present invention is a fan tray assembly in a computer chassis which allows fan assemblies to be removed and installed without shutting down the computer device. The fan tray assembly includes two or more fan assemblies for cooling the interior of the chassis. The fan tray assembly has a first position in which the fan tray assembly is received in the chassis and an extended position in which the fan tray assembly extends from an opening in the chassis. The fan tray assembly has an endplate, a left side, a right side, and at least one of the sides includes one or more slots for receiving a fan assembly. A hot tap board mounted to the fan tray assembly is connected to a power cable. The fan assemblies are hot tap connected to the hot tap board. The present invention allows the fan assembly to be removed without shutting down the device by extending the fan tray assembly from the computer chassis and removing the fan assembly from the fan tray assembly. A replacement fan assembly is inserted in the slot in the fan tray assembly and the fan tray assembly is slid back into the computer chassis.

A server, or other electronic device, includes a handle mated with the server. The server slides into and mates with a chassis. The handle is formed to provide a central opening through which visual and physical access is provided to a portion of the server, and preferably a portion of the server on which user interactive components are provided. Such components may one or more include status indicators, one or more user activated controls and one or more connectors. The opening permits the user to see the status indicators, which may comprise LEDs, activate the controls and connect an external cable to the server. The handle also is mated to the server via a hinge and a locking mechanism. With the locking mechanism is disengaged, the handle pivots away from the server. The user can then grip and further pivot the handle and pull the server out of the chassis.

The present invention allows the fan assembly to be removed without shutting down the device by extending the fan tray assembly from the computer chassis and removing the fan assembly from the fan tray assembly. A replacement fan assembly is inserted in the slot in the fan tray assembly and the fan tray assembly is slid back into the computer chassis.
