The invention relates to an interventional system comprising an introduction element () like a catheter for being introduced into an object (), for instance, a person. A moving unit () like a robot moves the introduction element within the object, wherein a tracking image generating unit () generates tracking images of the introduction element within the object and wherein a controller () controls the tracking image generating unit depending on movement parameters of the moving unit, which are indicative of the movement, such that the tracking images show the introduction element. This control can be performed very accurately based on the known real physical movement of the introduction element such that it is not necessary to, for instance, irradiate a relatively large area of the object for ensuring that the introduction element is really captured by the tracking images, thereby allowing for a reduced radiation dose applied to the object.

Interventional system

The invention addresses the problem of correctly positioning a catheter and reducing radiation doses. It relates to an X-ray imaging system () for a robotic catheter, comprising said catheter (), and a processing unit () for receiving X-ray images of a patient environment (). By being adapted to receive one or more auxiliary information items and using said information for determining the catheter position, the processing unit does not entirely have to rely on a large number of scanned image data, thus helping to reduce radiation while correctly delivering the catheter position as a function of as few as a single image, preferably 2D, and said one auxiliary information items. Further, said processing unit allows for at least one of rendering an image and provide said image to a visualization device (), and providing feedback, e.g. steering commands, to said robotic catheter.

X-ray imaging system for a catheter

An interventional system includes an introduction element () such as a catheter for being introduced into an object (), for instance, a person. A moving unit () such as a robot moves the introduction element within the object. A tracking image generating unit () generates, using a radiation beam (), tracking images of the introduction element within the object. A controller () controls the tracking image generating unit depending on movement parameters of the moving unit, which are indicative of the movement. The control operation of the controller () allows reducing radiation dose applied to the object.

Interventional x-ray

The invention relates to a spatial dimension determination device for determining a spatial dimension of a target element like a vessel within an object (), for instance, within a person. Movement parameters describing a movement of an introduction element () moved by a moving unit () like a robot and several images showing the introduction element are used for determining a dimensional relation between an image dimension and a real dimension. A further image showing the target element is provided, wherein a real dimension of the target element is determined based on an image dimension of the target element in the further image and based on the determined dimensional relation. An unknown real physical dimension of a target element within the object can therefore accurately be determined from an image of the target element by using, inter alia, the movement parameters.

Spatial dimension determination device for determining a spatial dimension of a target element within an object

The invention provides an illumination device () comprising (a) a waveguide element () comprising a first face (), a second face (), and a waveguide edge (), and (b) a LED light source (), arranged to generate light source light (), with optional collimating optics (). The LED light source () with optional collimating optics () is arranged to couple at least part of the light source light () into the waveguide element () via the waveguide edge () of the waveguide element (). The first face () comprises structures () arranged to couple at least part of the light out of the waveguide element () via the second face () to provide second face light (). The illumination device () further comprises a cavity (), arranged to allow light to escape from the waveguide element () into the cavity (), and a reflector (), arranged to reflect at least part of the light in the cavity () in a direction away from the second face () to provide first face light (). Such an illumination device may allow lighting a room, for instance via the ceiling with uplight, and lighting a specific area in the room with downlight. Further, a relatively thin illumination device may be provided, which may for instance suspend from a ceiling.

Free form lighting module

A method for providing a light output from a lighting system () capable of emitting light within a lighting system color gamut () in an x-y color plane, comprising the steps of: receiving () a light output target comprising a target color point () and a target flux; comparing () the target color point with the lighting system color gamut (); and if the target color point is outside of the color gamut: determining () a first approximation color point () inside the color gamut based on a minimization of a distance in the x-y color plane between the target color point and the first approximation color point; determining () a highest possible flux achievable by the lighting system at the first approximation color point; if the highest possible flux achievable by the lighting system at the first approximation color point is equal to or larger than the target flux, control () the lighting system to provide light defined by the first approximation color point and the target flux; and if the highest possible flux achievable by the lighting system at the first approximation color point is lower than the target flux, determining () a second approximation color point () at which the lighting system is capable of providing the target flux based on a minimization of a distance in the x-y color plane between the first approximation color point and the second approximation color point; and controlling () the lighting system to provide light defined by the second approximation color point and the target flux.

Tunable lighting system

A detection system, comprising: a radiation source () for providing input radiation; a radiation focusing arrangement () for providing the input radiation to an analysis region of a sample ();&#x2014;a radiation collection () arrangement for collecting output radiation from the analysis region of the sample resulting from interaction of the input radiation with the sample; a radiation detector () for detecting the collected output radiation; operating means () for operating the detection device in a first detection mode and a second detection mode, wherein in the first detection mode the analysis has a first size and/or shape and wherein in the second detection mode the analysis region has a second size and/or shape that is different from the first size and/or shape.

Detection system and method

An optical system for detecting light from a 2D area of a sample () comprises a collection lens () for collecting light from a collection region of the sample. A light detector () is positionally fixed with respect to the sample, and a reflector arrangement () directs collected light to the detector. The reflector arrangement comprises movable components and the collection lens () is movable relative to the sample. The collection lens and the movable components are configurable to define different collection regions, and the movement of the components effects a direction of the light from the collection region to a substantially unchanged area of the light detector (). This arrangement avoids the need for a bulky detector in order to detect signals from a 2D sample area formed by scanning across the sample.

Optical illumination apparatus and method having a reflective arrangement with moveable components for adjusting incident light

A system for detecting a plurality of analytes in a sample includes an aperture array and a lens array for generating and focusing a plurality of excitation sub-beams on different sub-regions of a substrate. These sub-regions can be provided with different binding sites for binding different analytes in the sample. By detecting the different luminescent responses in a detector, the presence or amount of different analytes can be determined simultaneously. Alternatively or in addition, collection of the luminescence radiation can be performed using the lens array for directly collecting the luminescence response and for guiding the collected luminescence response to corresponding apertures. The excitation sub-beams may be focused at the side of the substrate opposite of the lens array, and an immersion fluid is provided between the lens array and the substrate to increase the collection efficiency of the luminescence radiation.

Microarray characterization system and method

In a lighting device, sets of LEDs are employed using the natural characteristics of the LEDs to resemble incandescent lamp behavior when dimmed, thereby obviating the need for sophisticated controls. A first set of at least one LED produces light with a first color temperature, and a second set of at least one LED produces light with a second color temperature. The first set and the second set are connected in series, or the first set and the second set are connected in parallel, possibly with a resistive element in series with the first or the second set. The first set and the second set differ in temperature behavior, or have different dynamic electrical resistance. The light device produces light with a color point parallel and close to a blackbody curve.

An optical beam shaper comprises a polarization-dependent phase adjustment member which applies a phase pattern of equal magnitude and opposite sign to two orthogonal polarization states. In a preferred embodiment the beamer shaper is a dif tractive element made of a birefringent material, such as a photo-polymerizable liquid crystal polymer frozen in a uniaxial alignment, said dif tractive element comprising a plurality of zones, each zone having a stepped thickness defining a plurality of steps. The beam shaper can be used to introduce astigmatism to a polarized light beam or to undo the astigmatism to a beam with an orthogonal polarization state. The beam shaper is advantageously used within a detection device, such as a fluorescence scanner.

An optical system for illuminating a sample with a line beam includes a light source, a beam shaper for transforming the beam of light emitted by the light source into an intermediate astigmatic image, and an imaging system for transforming the intermediate astigmatic image into a final astigmatic image and for illuminating the sample. The beam shaper provides different non-unity magnifications in a lateral plane and in a transversal plane, and comprises a toroidal entrance surface for implementing the angular magnification and angular reduction and a toroidal exit surface with finite radii of curvature.
