A server including a processor to receive an electronic photo having at least one face from a user and compare the electronic photo with a template having a design element, and a computer implemented algorithm. The processor compares the electronic photo to the template and determines if the face is overlapped by the design element or if the face is cropped out of the photo slot. The processor presents the template combined with the electronic photo to the user only if the design element of the template does not overlap the face in the electronic photo. Multiple templates are compared to the electronic photo, and the templates are displayed based on a priority using criteria.

A device and algorithm for allowing a customer to choose a photo book cover template that is compatible with a photo having faces. The photo is compared with a set of templates arranged in a first order to determine how compatible the photo is to each of the templates, and a score indicative of compatibility is assigned. A re-sorted set of compatible templates combined with the photo is presented to the customer for consideration.

In some embodiments, the system can comprise one or more processing modules and one or more non-transitory storage modules storing computing instructions configured to run on the one or more processing modules and perform acts. In some embodiments, the acts can comprise generating a plurality of thumbnails of the one or more user characters on a plurality of customized products by, for each thumbnail of the plurality of thumbnails, composing a monogram file comprising the one or more user characters and combining a monogram container file of one or more monogram container files with the monogram file.
