A coated cutting tool includes a substrate coated with a multi-layered wear resistant coating having a layer of α-AlOand a layer of titanium carbonitride TiCN, with 0.85≤x≤1.3 and 0.4≤y≤0.85, deposited on the α-AlOlayer. The TiCNexhibits a texture coefficient TC(hkl), measured by X-ray diffraction using CuKα radiation and θ-2θ scan. The TC(hkl) is defined according to Harris formula: wherein

Coated cutting tool

A coated cutting tool having a substrate and a coating is provided. The coating includes an inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer and an outer &#x3b1;-AlO-single-layer. The thickness of the inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer is less than or equal to 35% of the sum of the thickness of the inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer and the thickness of the outer &#x3b1;-AlO-single-layer. The sum of the thickness of the inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer and the outer &#x3b1;-AlO-single-layer is 2-15 &#x3bc;m. The inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer consists of alternating sublayers of &#x3b1;-AlOand sublayers of TiCO, TiCNO, AlTiCO or AlTiCNO. The inner &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer can include at least 5 sublayers of &#x3b1;-AlO.

A coated cutting tool includes a multilayer of alternating sublayers of &#x3ba;-AlOand sublayers of TiN, TiC, TiCN, TiCO or TiCNO. The multilayer includes at least 3 sublayers of &#x3ba;-AlO. The multilayer further exhibits an XRD diffraction over a &#x3b8;-2&#x3b8; scan of 15&#xb0;-140&#xb0;, wherein the 0 0 2 diffraction peak (peak area) is the strongest peak originating from the &#x3ba;-AlOsublayers of the multilayer.

A coated cutting tool includes a substrate and a coating. The coating has an &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer of alternating sublayers of &#x3b1;-AlOand sublayers of TiCO, TiCNO, AlTiCO or AlTiCNO. The &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer includes at least 5 sublayers of &#x3b1;-AlO, wherein the total thickness of the &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer is 1-15 &#x3bc;m and wherein a period in the &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer is 50-900 nm. The &#x3b1;-AlO-multilayer exhibits an XRD diffraction over a &#x3b8;-2&#x3b8; scan of 20&#xb0;-140&#xb0;, wherein the relation of the intensity of the 0 0 12 diffraction peak (peak area), I(0 0 12), to the intensities of the 1 1 3 diffraction peak (peak area), I(1 1 3), the 1 1 6 diffraction peak (peak area), I(1 1 6), and the 0 2 4 diffraction peak (peak area), I(0 2 4), is I(0 0 12)/I(1 1 3)&#x3e;1, I(0 0 12)/I(1 1 6)&#x3e;1 and I(0 0 12)/I(0 2 4)&#x3e;1.

A coated cutting tool includes a substrate and a coating of one of more layers. The coating includes a layer of &#x3b1;-AlOof a thickness of 1-20 &#x3bc;m deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits an X-ray diffraction pattern and wherein the texture coefficient TC(h k 1) is defined according to the Harris formula, wherein 1&#x3c;TC(0 2 4)&#x3c;4 and 3&#x3c;TC(0 0 12)&#x3c;6.

CVD coated cutting tool

A coated cutting tool for chip forming machining of metals includes a substrate having a surface coated with a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coating. The substrate is coated with a coating having a layer of &#x3b1;-AlO, wherein the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits a texture coefficient TC(0 0 12)&#x2265;7.2 and wherein the ratio of I(0 0 12)/I(0 1 14)&#x2265;0.8. The coating further includes a MTCVD TiCN layer located between the substrate and the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer. The MTCVD TiCN layer exhibits a pole figure, as measured by EBSD, in a portion of the MTCVD TiCN layer parallel to the outer surface of the coating and less than 1 &#x3bc;m from the outer surface of the MTCVD TiCN, wherein a pole plot based on the data of the pole figure, with a bin size of 0.25&#xb0; over a tilt angle range of 0&#xb0;&#x2264;&#x3b2;&#x2264;45&#xb0; from the normal of the outer surface of the coating shows a ratio of intensity within &#x3b2;&#x2264;15&#xb0; tilt angle to the intensity within 0&#xb0;&#x2264;&#x3b2;&#x2264;45&#xb0; of &#x2265;45%.

The present disclosure relates to a coated cutting tool having a substrate and a coating, wherein the coating includes at least one layer of &#x3ba;-AlOwith a thickness of 1-20 &#x3bc;m deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). A &#x3c7;-scan from &#x2212;80&#xb0; to 80&#xb0; over the (0 0 6) reflection of the &#x3ba;-AlOlayer shows the strongest peak centered around 0&#xb0; and the full width half maximum (FWHM) of the peak is &#x3c;25&#xb0;.

CVD coated cutting tool with {0 0 1} textured &#x3ba;-AlOlayer

A coated cutting tool for chip forming machining of metals includes a substrate having a surface coated with a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coating. The coated cutting tool has a substrate coated with a coating including a layer of &#x3b1;-Al2O3, wherein the &#x3b1;-Al2O3 layer exhibits a dielectric loss of 10&#x2212;6&#x2264;tan &#x3b4;&#x2264;0.0025, as measured with AC at 10 kHz, 100 mV at room temperature of 20&#xb0; C.

A coated cutting tool insert includes a substrate of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, steel or cubic boron nitride having deposited thereon a coating having a total thickness of 60 &#x3bc;m, including one or more layers having a wear resistant layer of &#x3b1;-AlOof a thickness of 1 to 45 &#x3bc;m deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The &#x3b1;-AlOlayer includes at least two portions, a first thickness portion and a second thickness portion immediately on top of the first thickness portion. The first thickness portion has an essentially columnar &#x3b1;-AlOgrain structure, and at a transition from the first thickness portion to the second thickness portion the grain boundaries of at least 1 out of 25 neighboring grains of the &#x3b1;-AlOgrains undergo a directional change into a direction that is essentially perpendicular, 90&#xb1;45 degrees, to the grain boundaries in the first thickness portion.

Alumina coated cutting tool

A coated cutting tool for chip forming machining of metals includes a substrate having a surface coated with a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coating. The coating has a layer of &#x3b1;-AlO, wherein the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits a texture coefficient TC(0 0 12)&#x2265;7.2 and wherein the ratio of I(0 0 12)/I(0 1 14) is &#x2265;1.

A coated cutting tool comprising substrate and a coating, wherein the coating comprises a layer of MTCVD TiCN, and a layer of &#x3b1;-AlO, wherein the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits an X-ray diffraction pattern, as measured using CuK&#x3b1; radiation, the (hkl) reflections used are (012), (104), (110), (113), (116), (300), (214) and (0 0 12), and the TC(0 0 12) is higher than 5 and a full width half maximum (FWHM) of a rocking curve peak of the (0 0 12) plane of the &#x3b1;-AlOis lower than 30&#xb0;.
