Measurements of insulin quantities in a syringe are performed inductively in an integrated insulin dose recorder/blood glucose meter. The syringe is placed in a holder before the administration of the dose, and the liquid quantity in the syringe is recorded. Inductors may be situated within the syringe and/or outside the syringe in various geometries. Standard or customized syringes may be used. Liquid quantities in the syringe are determined by comparing inductive response patterns of the syringe with calibration data stored in the device. Insulin dose and blood glucose histories are downloaded to a patient computer for transfer to a clinician's computer.

Inductance-based dose measurement in syringes

Delivery of health information to a patient suffering from a chronic condition is personalized by displaying the health information directly on a customized image of a body. The patient's medical record, standards of care for the condition, prescribed treatments, and patient input are applied to a generalized health model of a disease to generate a personalized health model of the patient. The personalized health model comprises an HTML file encoding an image map of a body. The body image illustrates the health condition of the individual patient. Preferably, data is collected from health provider sources and stored in a database on a server at a service provider site. The data is processed at the server, and is displayed in the patient's home using a TV connected to a multimedia processor. The multimedia processor connects the television set to a communications network such as the Internet. Applications include preventive care of chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma.

Personalized display of health information

An automated system and method provides customized health education to an individual at a remote terminal to induce a modification in a health-related behavior of the individual. The automated system includes a questionnaire generator for questioning the individual to determine his or her motivational drivers and comprehension capacity. A profile generator receives answers entered by the individual from the remote terminal and generates a motivational driver profile and a comprehension capacity profile of the individual. A translator receives clinical data relating to a current health condition of the individual and translates the clinical data, the motivational driver profile, and the comprehension capacity profile into a profile code. An educational fulfillment bank matches the profile code to matching educational materials and transfers the matched educational materials to the remote terminal. An evaluation program evaluates educational responses of the individual and provides profile updates for targeting subsequent educational material to the individual based on the educational responses.

On-line health education and feedback system using motivational driver

An apparatus for determining and recording a dose of an agent delivered with a syringe. The syringe has a barrel for holding the agent and a plunger movably positioned in the barrel for expelling the agent. The plunger includes a magnetically responsive element, such as an iron core. The apparatus has a receptacle for receiving the syringe for dose measurement. An inductive element is positioned coaxially to the receptacle to produce a magnetic field. When the syringe is placed in the receptacle, the intensity of the magnetic field varies in dependence upon the position of the plunger in the barrel. The magnetic field induces a voltage in a conducting loop. A voltage meter is connected to the conducting loop to measure the induced voltage. A microprocessor is connected to the voltage meter to calculate the dose from the measurement of the induced voltage. A recorder, such as a digital memory unit, records the dose.
