The present invention provides a notepad holder for automobiles which may be mounted directly to the windshield of a car for viewing by the driver during operation of the motor vehicle or for making notes during times when the vehicle is momentarily stopped. The notepad holder includes a base which is removably mounted to the inner surface of the windshield of a motor vehicle by at least two separate mounting locations. The base includes a clamp for removably holding a pad or other writing material, and further includes a compartment for holding a pen or other writing implement.

For continuously drawing wire the temperature of the wire at each die is measured and the drawing speed is adjusted so the hottest running one of the dies is just below an overheated temperature.

Method and apparatus for wire drawing

An electric hot plate has a molybdenum disilicide resistance wire heating element spaced above a fibrous refractory pad by wire supports and spaced below a transparent glass plate forming a cooking surface. The pad has a smooth top surface, the wire is looped back and forth sinuously or possibly spirally coiled to form a layer which is parallel with the pad surface and the glass plate, and the wire is designed to operate at temperatures preferably of from about 2300.degree. to 2500.degree. F. or higher, at which temperatures the pad surface has been found to be effective for diffusely reflecting upwardly the wire heat radiation.

A wire-coiling machine has a non-rotating mandrel having a coil-starting portion which declines to a forwardly extending coiling portion. Means revolving about the coil-starting portion continuously feeds and winds under back-tension the wire to be coiled on this coil-starting portion, the latter having a declination and forward extent causing the wire while winding thereon to continuously slide radially downwardly and axially forwardly so as to feed and form coil convolutions on the mandrel's coiling portion while forcing the latter to continuously feed forwardly so as to continuously produce a coil in the form of a non-rotating coil. The mandrel can be very short with a free terminating end from which the non-rotating coil feeds continuously for easy collecting or processing operations.
