Devices and methods for automatic calibration of rate gyroscope bias are described. One example method includes receiving, while the device is in motion, a plurality of measurements from one or more sensors, including a gyroscope, in the device. In this example, the plurality of measurements is acquired over a time period. The method also includes identifying one or more time segments, within the time period, having a low motion activity of the device by comparing a computed value associated with a motion of the device to a predetermined threshold. The method further includes determining, based on one or more measurements acquired over the one or more time segments, a degree of motion metric for at least one of the one or more sensors, and determining, based on the degree of motion metric for the at least one of one or more sensors, an estimate of a bias of the gyroscope.

Methods and systems for automatic calibration of gyroscope bias in the presence of motion

Methods, systems and devices for estimating the position and orientation of an invasive surgical devices, for example, a catheter guidewire or endoscope, surgical catheter, or self-guided electrophysiology catheter, relative to a reference frame, are described. An example system comprises one or more permanent magnets mounted on the surgical device, a plurality of magnetometer sensors at fixed location providing a reference frame that are configured to perform magnetic field measurements of the direct current superposition field of the permanent magnets, and computational means for receiving the input signals and calculating the position and orientation of the permanent magnets mounted on the surgical device.

Operation of an electronic contact lens takes into account saccadic motion of the eye and reduced visual perception during saccades (saccadic suppression). The user's eye motion is tracked, and onset of a saccade is detected based on the eye's motion. For example, saccades may be detected when the eye's acceleration or jerk exceeds a threshold. The endpoint of the saccade is then predicted in real-time while the saccade is still occurring. This may be the temporal endpoint (i.e., when the saccade ends) and/or the positional endpoint (i.e., the eye position at the end of the saccade). Operation of the electronic contact lens is adjusted based on the predicted endpoint.

Devices, systems and methods for automatic calibration of rate gyroscope sensitivity are described. One exemplary method includes receiving a first plurality of measurements from a gyroscope and a second plurality of measurements from at least another sensor including at least one accelerometer, generating an orientation estimate of the device and a plurality of orientation corrections based on the first and second plurality of measurements, generating an estimate of a sensitivity of the gyroscope based on the orientation estimate, the plurality of orientation corrections and the first plurality of measurements, and calibrating at least the gyroscope based on the estimate of the sensitivity. In an example, the at least another sensor may include an accelerometer and/or a magnetometer.

Automatic calibration of rate gyroscope sensitivity

An electronic device configured for real-time calibration of an on-board accelerometer. A plurality of acceleration measurements are collected from the accelerometer to form a data set. An accelerometer error correction model is maintained that includes bias error calibration parameters, sensitivity calibration parameters, and cross-axis calibration parameters that each specify respective weights for each of bias error, sensitivity error, and cross-axis error. Calibration values are determined for one or more of the bias error calibration parameters, the sensitivity calibration parameters, and the cross-axis error calibration parameters for the data set of acceleration measurements using the accelerometer error correction model. A true acceleration vector may be determined that corresponds to a subsequently received acceleration measurement using the determined calibration values.

A container has a housing and a lid. The housing has a hollow interior adapted to receive a securement strap having a crank. At least one sidewall of the container has a hole therethrough. The hole is shaped and disposed to allow the crank to pass there-through to the exterior of the housing when the securement strap is received into the hollow interior, such that the crank may be used as a handle for carrying the combination.

A ratcheting strap device has an elongate body with a reel axis towards a first end and a ratcheting mechanism towards a second end opposite there-from. The ratcheting mechanism is affixed to the body, and has a spool axis and a ratchet spool rotatable relative to the body there-about. A first strap/hook member has a first length of strap affixed to a first one of the ratcheting mechanism and the body at a first proximal end, and has a first hook affixed to a first distal end there-of. A take-up reel is affixed to the body and rotational relative thereto about the reel axis. A second strap hook member has a second length of strap having a second proximal end connectable to the take-up reel, has a take-up strap portion adjacent to the second proximal end and windable around the take up reel, and has a second hook affixed to a second distal end there-of. The second length of strap has a midsection between its second proximal and distal ends, passing through and engageable by the ratchet spool such that rotation of the spool causes the midsection to be wound there-around.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for performing deduced reckoning navigation without a constraint relationship between orientation of a sensor platform and a direction of travel of an object are described herein. A sensor fusion component can be configured to receive data from sensors of a sensor platform coupled to a pedestrian; and generate world coordinate information based on the data. Further, a gait recognition component can be configured to record one or more walking patterns of the pedestrian in a training database; and determine whether the world coordinate information is associated with a walking pattern of the one or more walking patterns. Furthermore, a position estimation component can be configured to estimate a position of the pedestrian based on the world coordinate information if the world coordinate information is associated with the walking pattern, regardless of an orientation of the sensor platform with respect to the position of the pedestrian.

Deduced reckoning navigation without a constraint relationship between orientation of a sensor platform and a direction of travel of an object

A container and a securement strap are disclosed. The securement strap includes a crank. The container has a housing and a lid. The housing has a hollow interior adapted to receive the securement strap. The hollow interior is surrounded by a bottom wall and sidewalls to contain the securement strap, and has an open top to receive the securement strap into the hollow interior. At least one of the sidewalls has a hole therethrough. The lid is attached to the housing at the open top by a hinge. The lid being pivotable relative to the housing about the hinge between a closed position wherein access to the hollow interior is denied and an opened position in which access to the hollow interior is enabled. The lid is latchable to the housing to deny pivoting relative thereto and thereby deny receipt and removal of the securement strap. The hole is shaped and disposed to allow the crank to pass there-through to the exterior of the housing when the securement strap is received into the hollow interior, such that the crank may be used as a handle for carrying the combination.
