A method for paging a user equipment, UE, in a radio access network, RAN, served by a core network node. When a UE attaches to the radio access network, a service area identity included in the respective a respective registration message from each UE, is received and registered in the core network node. The method further includes a step of receiving one or more data packets to be sent to a receiving UE attached to the network and determining a permitted latency for delivery of the one or more data packets to the UE. When permitted latency exceeds a predetermined latency threshold, a step of retrieving the registered SAI for the receiving UE is performed. In a concluding step in the method of paging, a first page is performed of the UE, directing the first page to cells belonging to a first paging area determined by the retrieved SAI.

Method and nodes for paging in a radio access network

A method performed by a traffic analyzing element in a communication network in which a radio device communicates over a packet switched (PS) radio access bearer (RAB) with a radio access network (RAN) using compression in uplink (UL). The method comprises measuring at least one property of radio traffic between the radio device and the RAN. The method also comprises predicting a fraction of UL data on the PS RAB which will be compressible, based on the measuring. The method also comprises outputting information about the predicted fraction to a memory size estimating element in the communication network. Radio compression memory allocation

A method implemented in a first peer entity communicating with a second peer entity using a predetermined protocol includes receiving a first packet from the second peer entity. The method further includes identifying an instruction field included within the first packet, the instruction field indicating a predetermined function to be performed by the first peer entity. The method further includes determining whether the predetermined function can be performed by the first entity. The method also includes transmitting a second packet to the second peer entity indicating whether the first entity performs the predetermined function.

Method and apparatus for activation and deactivation of radio network functionality

A method of configuring a header compression or decompression algorithm in a packet network. The method comprises the steps of analyzing or receiving packet information associated with packet traffic, and determining a representative header length to consider as the header length for a plurality of packets.
