A support structure for a membrane comprises a plurality of support members and at least one flange, including: (a) a first set of spoke-like support members that extend generally from at least one flange toward a common hub and that have a distal end joined to at least one flange and a proximal end joined to the common hub; and (b) at least one subsequent set of spoke-like support members that are distributed between circumferentially adjacent pairs of spoke-like support members from the prior sets and that extend generally from at least one flange toward the hub, each having a distal end joined to at least one flange and a proximal end connected to the nearest circumferentially adjacent pair of spoke-like support members from the prior sets via a pair of approximately straight anchoring support members which join together and form an angular joint at or near said proximal end, with the vertex of said angular joint pointing generally away from the hub.

High-performance, low-stress support structure with membrane

An improved radiation window comprises a film permeable to radiation disposed on a support structure. The support structure comprises a primary transmissive area comprising a plurality of support members defining a plurality of apertures for radiation to pass through; a flange disposed around the periphery of the primary transmissive area having generally greater mechanical rigidity than the primary transmissive area; and a transition region disposed between, and contiguous with, the primary transmissive area and the flange; the transition region having generally greater mechanical rigidity than the primary transmissive area and generally lesser mechanical rigidity than the flange, thereby providing an intermediate rigidity transition between the dissimilar rigidities of the primary transmissive area and the flange. A radiation detection system comprises a sensor configured to detect radiation, disposed behind such an improved radiation window.

Optical information media that contain a data layer material that is substantially inert to oxidation and has a defined melting point range are disclosed. The inertness to oxidation and melting point range make the media particularly attractive for long-term information storage.

A planar filament comprising two bonding pads and a non-linear filament connected between the two bonding pads. The planar filament may be wider in the center to increase filament life. The planar filament can form a double spiral-serpentine shape. The planar filament may be mounted on a substrate for easier handling and placement. Voltage can be used to create an electrical current through the filament, and can result in the emission of electrons from the filament. The planar filament can be utilized in an x-ray tube.

A cathode header optic for an x-ray tube includes an elongate trench with opposite trench walls. A cup recess is formed in the trench between the opposite trench walls, and has a bounded perimeter. A cathode element is disposed in the trench at the cup recess. The cathode element is capable of heating and releasing electrons. A secondary cathode optic defining a cathode ring can be disposed about the header optic. The cathode optics can form part of an x-ray tube.

An X-ray source includes a magnetic appliance to provide electron beam focusing. The magnetic appliance can provide variably focused and non-focused configurations. The magnetic appliance can include one or more electromagnets and/or permanent magnets. An electric potential difference is applied to an anode and a cathode that are disposed on opposite sides of an evacuated tube. The cathode includes a cathode element to produce electrons that are accelerated towards the anode in response to the electric field between the anode and the cathode. The anode includes a target material to produce x-rays in response to impact of electrons.

An x-ray source has an evacuated tube. An anode is disposed in the tube and includes a material configured to produce x-rays in response to impact of electrons. A cathode is disposed in the tube opposing the anode configured to produce electrons accelerated towards the anode in response to an electric field between the anode and the cathode. A flange extends from the cathode toward the anode, and has a smaller diameter than the evacuated tube. The flange extends closer to the anode than an interface between the cathode and the tube thus forming a reduced-field region between the evacuated tube and the flange.
