According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a wind turbine blade having a split blade configuration, comprising a first blade module defining an aerofoil profile and a second blade module defining an aerofoil profile; a damping module intermediate the first blade module and the second blade module; wherein the damping module comprises a first blade interface for joining to the first blade module and a second blade interface for joining to the second blade module. The damping module comprises a vibration damping unit. Beneficially, the invention provides a useful way in which to integrate motion damping functionality into a modular wind turbine blade.

Controlling noise emissions from individual blades of a wind turbine

A method of masking wind turbine noise from a wind turbine. Masking noise is generated to produce resultant noise with a modulation depth which is less than a modulation depth of the wind turbine noise and an average level which is greater than an average level of the wind turbine noise. The masking noise is either un-modulated masking noise with a substantially constant level, or amplitude-modulated masking noise which is phase-shifted relative to the wind turbine noise and has a modulation depth which is less than the modulation depth of the wind turbine noise.

A detuner system for a wind turbine includes a drive train component having a natural frequency. The drive train component is configured to rotate about an axis of rotation at a range of different speeds. The detuner system includes a controller for selectively interacting with the drive train component and cause a step change in the natural frequency of the drive train component at a first threshold of the rotational speed range, and cause a step change in the natural frequency of the drive train component at a second threshold of the rotational speed range different to the first threshold.

The present invention relates to control of wind turbines where a noise measure is taken into account. Control of a wind turbine is described where a control trajectory is calculated based on noise measure, the noise measure being determined from a predicted operational trajectory. In embodiments the predicted operational trajectories are calculated by using a model predictive control (MPC) routine.

A wind turbine system comprising a plurality of wind turbines mounted to a support structure including a tower, wherein each of the plurality of wind turbines includes a rotor and a power generation system driven by the rotor, and at least one of a rotor blade pitch adjustment means and a generator power control means. The system further includes control means that receives vibration data associated with the support structure and which is configured to determine a damping control command for a respective one of the plurality of wind turbines, wherein the or each of the wind turbines includes a damping controller that receives a damping control command and which is operable to apply a damping control input to one or both of the blade pitch adjustment means and the generator power control means so as to counteract the measured vibration of the support structure. A benefit of the invention is that the operation of the multiple turbines of the system is used to reduce the effects of structural vibration by damping that vibration in an active manner.

A system for damping oscillations in a structure provides two masses that can be controlled to rotate at the frequency of oscillation of the structure and in opposite directions about axes of rotation transverse to the direction of the oscillations. The masses have individually controllable moments of inertia, and when their moments of inertia are equal a harmonic linear force is generated. The phases of the rotating masses can be individually controlled whereby the direction of the resulting harmonic linear force can be controlled. The moments of inertia can be controlled by shifting their centers of gravity relative to the respective axes of rotation.

The invention relates to a wind turbine having a wind turbine tower having a tower wall, a wind turbine nacelle positioned on top of the tower and noise reducer for reducing noise emission from the tower. The noise reducer including a beam formed as an elongated strengthening member and one or more dampers, where the dampers are arranged between the tower wall and the beam, the dampers being arranged so that relative movement between the tower wall and the beam results in dissipation of energy via the dampers in order to reduce noise emission. The invention further relates to a method for reducing noise emission from a wind turbine tower.

According to the present invention is provided a method of control of noise emission from a wind park in operation, the wind park comprising a plurality of wind turbines. The method comprises the steps of &#x2022; providing measurements of at least one wind speed and of at least one wind direction to a park noise emission emulation module including for each of two or more of the plurality of wind turbines a wind turbine noise emission model being suitable for producing a prediction of noise emission from the wind turbine as a function of at least one operational characteristic, the geographical position of each of the plurality of wind turbines, and the geographical position of at least one noise immission point, &#x2022; emulating the noise level at the at least one noise immission point as a result of noise emitted by the plurality of wind turbines, and &#x2022; controlling the operation of the wind park from the result of the emulation so as to prevent the noise level at the at least one noise immission point from exceeding a predetermined threshold level. Furthermore, the invention relates to a wind park.

Control of wind park noise emission

A wind turbine includes a wind-driven rotor and a drive chain for transmitting the driving force to a power converter, the drive chain including at least one rotatable driving element, including e.g. a gear with associated input and output shafts. The rotor and the driving element of the drive chain define a torsional resonance frequency, which is controlled or influenced by a detuner of the wind turbine. The detuner comprises a mass element and an elastic element. The resonance frequency is controlled or influenced by the detuner, so that it does not coincide with frequencies occurring in the drive chain during operation of the wind turbine, so as to thereby reduce undesired loads in the drive chain and/or tonality, i.e. noise.

A method for operating a wind turbine having a rotor with a number of wind turbine blades, wherein the rotor's axis of rotation is tilted in relation to the direction of the incoming wind, includes the steps of determining the azimuth angle (A) of the blades and adjusting the pitch angle of the blades in accordance with the azimuth angle (A) to ensure a substantially constant angle of attack (AoA) during at least a full rotation of the rotor. A wind turbine and use of the method are also contemplated.
