Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to access devices configured to access a subcutaneous medical device. The access device can include a needle supported by a needle hub and in some embodiments a housing slidably engaged therewith and configured to align the needle axis at a predetermined angle. The access device can include an indicator system configured to detect when the needle is correctly aligned with a target window of a port. This can allow for smaller, lower profile ports with smaller target windows while mitigating mis sticks. The indicator system can be contained within the access device little or no increase to the overall size of the access device. The indicator system can employ various modalities including capacitance, induction, magnetic, thermal, acoustic, or radio frequency (RF).

Access needle indication systems for locating and accessing subcutaneous medical devices

A catheter () for treating hypervolemia in a patient includes a luminal ingress () joined to a luminal egress () at a distal end portion () of the catheter having a closed distal end (). The distal end portion is configured to at least temporarily reside within a vessel of the patient, the distal end portion including a semipermeable membrane. The luminal ingress is designed to convey an influent having a first osmotic concentration to the distal end portion. The semipermeable membrane is configured to pass blood-borne water from the vessel into the distal portion. The blood-borne water is absorbed by the influent to produce an effluent having a second osmotic concentration lower than the first osmotic concentration. Catheters, catheter-based systems, and methods thereof for treating hypervolemia

A catheter assembly including a multi-lumen catheter, a stylet, and a guide-wire. The multi-lumen catheter includes a first lumen in fluid communication with a first distal opening and a second lumen in fluid communication with a second distal opening. The stylet is designed for insertion through the first lumen, having a length greater than a length of the first lumen such that a distal portion of the stylet can extend distal of the first distal opening. The distal portion of the stylet can include a stylet distal opening, a stylet proximal opening in communication with the stylet distal opening, and an expandable portion. The expandable portion can include a first expansion side and a second expansion side at least partially separable from the first expansion side. The stylet proximal opening can be formed through the first expansion side.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for inserting catheters having enhanced stiffening and guiding features

Catheter apparatuses, systems, and methods for introducing a catheter into a patient's body. In one embodiment, a catheter apparatus includes a catheter body having a first lumen capable of fluid communication via a first distal opening and a second lumen capable of fluid communication via a second distal opening, a first intra-catheter stiffener element for disposition through the first lumen such that a distal end thereof is distal in relation to the first distal opening, and a second intra-catheter stiffener element configured for disposition through the second lumen such that a distal end thereof is distal in relation to the second distal opening, one of the first intra-catheter stiffener element distal end and the second intra-catheter stiffener element distal end capable of receiving and accommodating the other of the first intra-catheter stiffener element distal end and the second intra-catheter stiffener element distal end.

An internal bolster for use securing a medical device, such as a feeding tube, within a body of a patient is disclosed. In one embodiment, a feeding tube includes an internal bolster, comprising one or more bolster arms that each include a first end hingedly connected to a distal end of the medical device and a free second end. The bolster arms are selectively deployable between a first position wherein the bolster arms are substantially in-line with an axis of feeding tube, and a second position wherein the bolster arms are substantially deflected from the axis of the feeding tube to enable securement of the feeding tube within a stoma or other opening defined in the body. Various means for selectively moving the bolster arms between the first and second positions are disclosed. Related methods of use are also disclosed.
