A print agent vessel is disclosed that comprises a circuit, the circuit comprising a first electrically conductive portion to couple to a first terminal of a printing device, a second electrically conductive portion to couple to a second terminal of the printing device, and an electrically conductive component capacitively coupled to the first electrically conductive portion. The circuit has a variable capacitance that is indicative of a parameter of the component.

Liquid handling device

A calibration apparatus is disclosed herein. An example includes a printing mechanism, a media control mechanism, a sensor, and a processor. The processor controls the printing mechanism to print a first pattern of first elements on a print medium and a second pattern of second elements on the print medium that are interleaved with the first elements. The processor also actuates the media control mechanism to advance the print medium, determines a centroid of at least one of the first elements based on a first measured reflectance by the sensor, and determines a centroid of at least one of the second elements based on a second measured reflectance by the sensor. The processor also determines a print medium advance error based on the at least one determined centroid of the first elements and the at least one determined centroid of the interleaved second elements.

Calibration apparatus

In an embodiment, a processor-readable medium stores code representing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to determine a media advance error for each one of multiple page regions on a media page. The instructions further cause the processor to control a media advance mechanism to compensate for the media advance error in each page region.

Multi-region media advance compensation

In an embodiment, a processor-readable medium stores code representing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to measure a width of a first-sized media page and determine a length that corresponds with the width. Based on the length, a bottom end of the first-sized media page is located, and a calibration pattern is printed in a first page region located relative to the bottom end of the first-sized media page.

An ink set with near infrared detection capability is disclosed. The ink set includes a cyan ink including a cyan colorant, a magenta ink including a magenta colorant, and a yellow ink including a yellow colorant, each of the colorants having maximum light absorbance in the visible wavelength range of about 400 to 750 nm, wherein each of the cyan, magenta and yellow inks includes a near infrared (NIR) absorbing pigment, which is different in spectral absorption characteristic from the colorant and absorbs light in the wavelength range of about 750 to 1200 nm.

Ink set with near infrared detection capability and method of using the same

A method of printing includes ejecting ink drops onto a bottom portion of a print media from ink orifices of a first portion of a printhead; after ejecting ink drops from the first portion of the printhead, advancing the print media; and after advancing the print media, ejecting ink drops onto the bottom portion of the print media from ink orifices of a second portion of the printhead. The second portion of the printhead is smaller than the first portion of the printhead and excludes ink orifices toward an end of the printhead opposite a direction of the advancing of the print media.

Methods and means for imaging are provided. A sequential application hierarchy of two or more colors is defined. A page-wide print array forms images on a moving media using colored inks. Shingling is performed in accordance with the sequential application hierarchy within the overlap print zones of the page-wide print array. Images formed on the media are visually seamless and of proper hue and color saturation throughout as a result of the present teachings.

A media support device usable with an image forming apparatus is disclosed. The media support device includes a support surface having at least one media support area. The media support area is configured to receive and support media to receive ink ejected from an image forming apparatus thereto. The media support device also includes a plurality of cavities configured to store ink ejected from the image forming apparatus thereto. Each one of the cavities includes a cavity opening configured to receive the ink ejected from the image forming apparatus thereto.

In one embodiment, a drop detection method includes: moving a light source along a first side of the drop zone to illuminate drops passing through a drop zone; and, without blocking any part of the drop zone, detecting light scattered off the drops as the drops pass through the drop zone. In another embodiment, a drop detector includes: a light source on a first side of the drop zone for illuminating drops passing through a drop zone; a light detector on the first side of the drop zone near the light source and a movable carriage carrying the light source and the light detector. The light detector is exposed to the drop zone for detecting light scattered off drops as the drops pass through the drop zone. The carriage is movable along the first side of the drop zone in a direction transverse to the drop direction.

A method of security printing can comprise the steps of printing a transparent ink onto a portion of a coated substrate resulting in printed region and an unprinted region, where the transparent ink is devoid of dyes, pigments, ceramics, metallics, and fluorescents; illuminating both the printed region and the unprinted region of the substrate, where the printed region scatters more light than the unprinted region creating a contrast; and detecting the contrast with a sensor that is sensitive to detecting light scattering differences between the printed region and the unprinted region.

Security printing and detecting systems and methods

An ink level sensing device and associated method. The ink level sensing device includes a near infrared illumination source that emits near infrared light, and a container configured to accommodate a supply of ink containing light absorption material. The device further includes a protruding chamber adjacent to the container. The protruding chamber is configured to accommodate a portion of the supply of ink accommodated by the container. The device also includes a sensor that is configured to receive a signal based on an amount of the light that passes through the protruding chamber. The method includes emitting a light from a near infrared illumination source and directing the light toward a protruding chamber of the ink supply. The method further includes sensing an amount of the light that passes through the protruding chamber in the ink supply.

Device and method for measuring ink levels in a container

The present invention is drawn to ink sets, methods of electronically sensing printed images, and ink-jet printing systems. In one embodiment, an ink set for ink-jet printing can include a cyan ink including cyan colorant, a magenta ink including magenta colorant, and a yellow ink including yellow colorant. All three inks of the ink set can include an infrared absorbing dye and have an overlapping infrared absorbance range with respect to one another.
