An HF surgical appliance comprising an HF generator having an output circuit, which contains an output transformer and has an output impedance. Output terminals, to which an HF surgical instrument can be connected, are provided, said instrument supplying a high-frequency current with a specific frequency into tissue to treat the same. An additional output circuit containing an additional transformer, which is connected between the output circuit and the output terminals to reduce the output impedance is also provided. In this way, the HF surgical appliance can be operated with a high power output even on loads having low impedance.

To achieve a safe transition from the ignition of a plasma in incision mode to the combustion of the plasma during a cutting mode, an electromedical device to supply an instrument with electrical power is equipped with an ignition recognition mechanism formed by a sensor device. This ignition recognition mechanism switches the HF generator provided in the device from an incision operating mode to a cutting operating mode as soon as ignition is recognized. The switching is brought about by the switching of an HF modulation from a low crest factor in the incision operating mode to a high crest factor in the cutting operating mode.

Maximum HF current is initially introduced into tissue at a pre-specified maximum coagulation voltage. In this initial state, the tissue behaves in accordance with Ohm's law and can take up the maximum energy per unit of time. After the tissue has changed from an initial state to a state in which the tissue impedance or resistance is voltage-dependent, the HF parameters are selected such that the maximum possible energy input per unit of time is set.

Method and device for optimized coagulation of biological tissue

An electrosurgical high frequency (HF) generator for cutting and/or coagulating biological tissue. The generator comprises a power supply and a generator stage for exciting an HF oscillation signal in an output filter comprising a parallel resonant circuit coupled to a series resonant circuit, to which at least one electrode is connected. The generator has an improved efficiency level if the series resonant circuit has a resonance frequency that is higher than the resonance frequency of the parallel resonant circuit.

The invention relates to an HF surgical instrument for treating, in particular for cutting and coagulating, biological tissue by means of an HF current. The HF surgical instrument comprises an HF generator for supplying an HF current to a cutting electrode and at least one control device for interrupting an HF current circuit. The control device comprises a current monitoring device, which detects the amplitude of the HF current and then generates a first switch-off signal when the HF current decreases over a defined period of time and/or the HF current falls below a threshold value characterizing a state of the treated tissue, as well as an arc monitoring device, which generates a second switch-off signal when an arc is formed between the cutting electrode and the tissue. The control device is configured in such a way that the HF current circuit is interrupted in response to the first switch-off signal or the second switch-off signal.
