A process including shearing a first dispersion medium and a second dispersion medium under conditions that precipitate a plurality of polymeric fibers; and collecting the plurality of polymeric fibers at a rate of at least 300 grams/hour. The first dispersion medium is a solution including at least one polymeric component. The at least one polymeric component includes a polyetherimide component selected from the group consisting of polyetherimide homopolymers, polyetherimide co-polymers, polyetherether ketones homopolymers, polyetherether ketones copolymers, polyphenylene sulfones homopolymers, polyphenylene sulfones copolymers, and combinations thereof. Products produced by the process can be non-woven paper, medical implants, ultra-fine filters, membranes, hospital gowns, electrical insulation paper, honeycomb structures and personal hygiene products, dialyzers, blood, oxygenator filters, intravenous (IV) filters, diagnostic test filters, and blood/apheresis filters.

Process of making battery separators via spinning

A process of forming a non-woven web including spinning continuous polymeric filaments including one selected from a poly(phenylene ether) component, a poly(phenylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer, and combinations thereof. The filaments can have a length to diameter ratio that is more than 1,000,000, and a diameter ranging from 50 nanometers to 5 microns. The spinning can include passing a polymer through a spinneret having a plurality of orifices in a non-electrospinning environment. The process can further include chopping the plurality of continuous filaments and obtaining a plurality of chopped nano-fibers and forming the nano-fibers into a nonwoven web. The spinning can be conducted at a rate of at least 300 grams/hour/spinneret.

One embodiment relates to an, article and a method for producing an article including a plurality of substrates, and an adhesive bonded between at least two of the plurality of substrates. The adhesive can include a polycarbonate copolymer that includes reacted resorcinol, siloxane, and bisphenol-A. Another embodiment relates to an article having a first polyimide substrate, a second polyimide substrate, and an adhesive bonded between the first substrate and the second substrate. The article can have a 2 minute integrated heat release rate of less than or equal to 65 kilowatt-minutes per square meter (kW&#x2212;min/m) and a peak heat release rate of less than 65 kilowatts per square meter (kW/m) as measured using the method of FAR F25.4, in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation FAR 25.853(d).

A method of forming a layered article, the method comprises thermoforming a substrate sheet to form a shaped substrate, wherein the shaped substrate is a fiber-reinforced plastic material having a void content sufficient to allow a vacuum to be applied through the shaped substrate; pulling a vacuum through the shaped substrate; and pulling a film layer onto a surface of the shaped substrate to form the layered article.
