A switch with fastening holes in its housing is stably mounted on the web of a switching device. A plastics fastening element is used, which has three portions with differing diameters and which are inserted with press-fit in the fastening hole of the switch, on opposite sides of the switch, in receiving bores of webs aligned parallel to one other.

A fastening device which permits snap-in assembly of a switch to a panel or receiving member includes a resilient latching member connected to the switch housing and adapted to engage a shoulder of the receiving member. A second resilient member serves to urge the resilient latching member into contact with the shoulder. In one embodiment of the invention, the switch housing is inserted into a receiving portion of a control panel and a connector carries at least one resilient latching member adapted to engage a shoulder on the receiving portion. In this embodiment, the connector and panel cooperate to retain the switch.

An assembly for switches of the type which are pushed into a receptacle by means of webs guided in grooves. On each guide groove one side wall is staggered backwards relative to the other side wall in the longitudinal direction. A steering column switch mounting includes a sleeve which is insertable into the steering tube between the tube and the steering column which includes a portion which extends exteriorly of the tube forming a switch base plate and contact carrier. The interior sleeve portion includes a resilient strip which includes a locking stud which is biased against the steering tube and falls into a locking recess of the tube to hold the switch mounting in place.

A steering column switch mounting for a steering column switch in which a contact carrier is rotatably mounted in a switch housing for movement by a switch lever, comprises a steering tube which is adapted to contain the steering column therein and which has an end rim with an exterior lock recess defined adjacent the end rim. A switch housing base plate has a cylindrical portion which is engaged over the steering tube and the cylindrical portion includes at least one resilient strip portion with an inwardly projecting locking stud which is biased into engagement with the lock recess defined on the steering tube.

A return device for a direction indicating switch used with a vehicle steering wheel, comprises a movable switch member which is of arcuate form and is displaced by actuation of a lever member through an arcuate path of movement in order to displace a release spring which is pivotally mounted thereon to either a first or a second indicating position on respective sides of a neutral position. A release member which is in the form of a pin carried on a member which moves through an arc at a smaller radius than the switch member and which pin is adapted to be positioned in a neutral position when the steering wheel of the vehicle is steered straight ahead. When the steering wheel is turned, the release pin is moved so that it initially depresses a tangentially extending resilient portion of the spring which is provided on each side of the neutral position. The construction includes a guide means for guiding each spring side so that when it moves in a given direction away from neutral, the spring end is deflected into the path of the release pin. During the return move of the release pin with the steering wheel, it drives the spring back to a neutral position and it is centered in the neutral position by the guide means.
