A method and apparatus for producing a multifilament yarn by a melt spinning-draw process, and which includes applying additional heat to the melt in the region of the spinneret. The relationship between the withdrawal speed and draw ratio may be changed, and with an adaptation of other process parameters, it is possible to increase productivity. The process may be applied to continuous and discontinuous processes.

Spin system for thermoplastic yarns

A melt spinning apparatus is disclosed which includes a supporting housing, a melt supply block mounted in the upper end of the housing, and a spin plate mounted adjacent the lower end of the housing so as to define a spinning chamber between the block and plate. A melt diverting plate is positioned in the spinning chamber for deflecting the melt entering into the chamber, and the melt diverting plate is configured such that substantially the same pressure drop occurs in the melt as it moves from the melt supply duct to all portions of the upper surface of the spin plate, so as to achieve a substantially uniform denier among the resulting filaments.

Melt spinning apparatus

A godet for guiding and heating an advancing yarn, which includes a shaft mounted for rotation about its axis, and a casing coaxially and releasably mounted to the shaft. An induction coil heating system is fixedly mounted between the shaft and the outer wall of the casing, and the heating system includes a tubular core having a plurality of induction coils mounted thereon. A plurality of annular ribs are positioned on the core and on the inside of the outer wall of the casing for providing an advantageous magnetic flux path between a core and casing.

Godet for guiding and heating an advancing yarn

A spinning apparatus for melt spinning thermoplastic multicomponent yarn is disclosed, in which a nozzle pack (22) is joined by bolts with a filter cup (13), with the entire unit being mounted by a thread (21) on a connecting plug (20) of the pump or distributor block (10). The nozzle pack (22) is adapted to produce bicomponent yarns, and the exchange of a single blending plate (37) allows the apparatus to produce different structures of bicomponent filaments. Such spinning apparatus enhance the flexibility of the synthetic fiber producer and reduce the cost for spare parts, since it is necessary to keep available only additional blending plates (37), but not entire nozzle packs (22).

Apparatus for melt spinning multicomponent yarns

A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having at least one spindle mounted thereon, with the spindle being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. The revolver is rotatably mounted to the frame of the apparatus by a circular bearing surface of substantial diameter, which provides a very stable and durable mounting. The apparatus also includes a traversing mechanism for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

Yarn winding apparatus and method

A rotating spinning centrifuge is described for spinning yarns of a filament forming spinning material and which includes a centrifugal wheel and an elongate tubular central inlet sleeve fixed to the wheel. A pump is mounted in the inlet sleeve which serves to supply the spinning material under pressure and in a liquid state to the centrifugal wheel, and the pump is preferably designed and constructed as an extruder pump which includes an extruder screw and defining a rotating cylindrical jacket so that the spinning material is advanced under pressure to the centrifugal wheel.

Spinning centrifuge

A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having a pair of spindles mounted thereon, with the spindles being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. Upon rotation of the revolver, the spindles are moved between a winding position and a doffing position, and a traversing mechanism is provided for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the operating spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

Takeup machine

A yarn winding method is disclosed which involves a package doffing sequence for automatically transferring the running yarn to bobbins which are serially delivered to a winding position, and which reduces the tendency of the yarn to form laps on the equipment during the yarn transfer. The method includes the steps of winding the running yarn onto a first bobbin while traversing the yarn to form a cross wound package, laterally withdrawing the bobbin from its winding position when it becomes full, bringing an empty rotating second bobbin into circumferential contact with the running yarn, and then terminating the traverse of the yarn and transferring the yarn to the empty bobbin. Also, the traversing speed is decreased at the beginning of the doffing sequency and shortly prior to the traverse being terminated, and so that the tendency of the running yarn to slacken and form laps during the transfer operation is reduced.

Method of winding yarn packages

A method and apparatus for winding a textile yarn into a cross-wound package is disclosed, in which the yarn is wound about the package at a substantially constant rate while the yarn is guided onto the package by a traversing guide. In order to avoid the formation of ribbons on the package, the traversing frequency of the yarn guide is periodically varied by shortening the stroke of the traversing yarn guide while maintaining an unchanged traversing speed of the traversing yarn guide. The avoidance of the formation of ribbons is also accomplished by varying the traversing speed of the traversing yarn guide during the times in which the traversing frequency of the traversing yarn guide is unchanged. Stops are provided for controlling the length of back-and-forth movement of the traversing yarn guide and the stops can be moved inwardly and outwardly to provide the required stroke modification of the traversing guide. Several specific embodiments of the yarn traversing apparatus are disclosed, and wherein the traversing apparatus includes gripper means mounted on a slide which is positioned between parallel runs of a drive belt, and control means for moving the gripper means to alternately engage the two runs of the belt and thus reciprocate the slide.

Method and apparatus for winding yarn

An apparatus and method for processing a warp sheet of synthetic multifilament yarns is disclosed, and wherein the yarns may be withdrawn from supply packages and advanced along a path of travel in warp sheet form, heated and drawn while in advancing warp sheet form to orient the filaments, and then wound for example on a warp beam. Upon detection of a yarn break, the advance of the warp sheet is terminated, and means are provided for interrupting the application of heat to the sheet while the advance is terminated so as to avoid damage to the remaining yarns from a continued application of heat.

Apparatus for processing a warp sheet of yarns

A yarn withdrawal apparatus and method is disclosed for temporarily withdrawing a freshly spun and continuously advancing yarn to a waste container when the spinning operation is interrupted, and for thereafter threading the yarn onto the feed godet or winder of the spinning machine. The apparatus comprises a yarn advancing means in the form of a rotating tapered roll, which is adapted to have the yarn looped thereabout. The tapered roll comprises a yarn inlet portion and a yarn exit portion, with the inlet portion being designed to initially contact the advancing yarn. The cone angle of the inlet portion is predetermined so as to cause the yarn to initially engage the rotating roll without lateral slippage and thereby permit the rotating roll to exert a strong tension on the yarn. The yarn subsequently slips laterally along the yarn inlet portion of the roll and toward the yarn exit portion, and it is then tangentially withdrawn from the roll. The yarn exit portion of the roll has a cone angle which is predetermined to prevent the yarn from sliding therealong to the end of the roll.

Yarn withdrawal apparatus and method

A yarn withdrawal apparatus is disclosed for temporarily withdrawing a freshly spun and continuously advancing yarn to a waste container when the spinning operation is interrupted, and for thereafter threading the yarn onto the feed godet or winder of the spinning machine. The apparatus comprises a yarn advancing means in the form of a rotating roll, a yarn delivery tube including a yarn outlet opening, a yarn suction tube including a yarn inlet opening, and with the yarn delivery tube and yarn suction tube being mounted so as to permit relative rotation thereof about the axis of the roll and between a yarn catching position wherein the outlet opening and inlet opening are aligned, and a drawing-off position. Thus the relative rotation causes a yarn passing from the delivery tube to the suction tube to be at least partially looped about the rotating roll.
