An electrical power cell system including first and second electrical power cells having first and second terminals, one or more transient voltage suppressors connected in parallel with a relay, the relay having two states, the first state of the relay connects the first and second electrical power cells in series, and the second state of the relay bypasses the first electrical power cell so that the first electrical power cell is not connected in series with the second electrical power cell.

A multi-layer substrate includes a ground structure, a plurality of dielectric layers on the ground structure and a plurality of conductive layers separating the plurality of dielectric layers. The conductive layers include a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer and a connection electrically coupling the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer. The first conductive layer and the ground structure are configured to define a first parasitic capacitance there between and the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer are configured to define a second, negating parasitic capacitance there between.

A rechargeable battery assembly provides load balancing for individual battery cells making up a battery assembly. The battery assembly includes a plurality of series-connected battery cell assemblies. Each battery cell assembly includes a battery cell and a charge bypass load connected in parallel with the battery cell. A cell supervisory circuits (CSCs) and battery interface unit (BUI) interface between the battery cell assembly and a battery charge/discharge circuit to provide load balancing by comparing the voltages monitored with respect to each battery cell assembly to an end of charge voltage (EOCV) threshold and in response to the monitored voltage equaling the EOCV threshold issues a charge bypass command to the CSC to activate the charge bypass load.

A high-temperature, regulated power supply uses wide band gap transistors to drive a Royer circuit. Pulses output from the Royer circuit are gated through a pulse width modulator to control the duty cycle of wide band gap transistors that drive an output transformer. The output of the transformer is rectified and filtered to provide the regulated D.C. output voltage. Regulation is accomplished by sampling the output voltage, comparing it to a reference voltage and using the difference between the output voltage and the reference voltage to control the pulse width modulator. High temperature operability is provided by using wide band gap transistors and iron or steel core transformers. This technique also provides a radiation hard assembly.
