A power amplifying radiator is disclosed that includes an electric field receiver or radiofrequency (RF) energy coupling and impedance matching element, a capacitive coupler, a cavity combiner including a coaxial-cavity section providing electromagnetic communication with the capacitive coupler, and a phased-array antenna/one or more phased-array antennas. The RF energy coupling and impedance matching element is in electromagnetic communication with the one or more phased-array antennas via the cavity combiner. The cavity combiner includes a center conductor configured and disposed to project from the coaxial-cavity section such that the cavity combiner defines a co-axial cross-sectional configuration. The power amplifying radiator may be included within a high power microwave system.

Power amplifying radiator (PAR)

A power amplifying radiator is disclosed that includes an electric field receiver or radio frequency (RF) energy coupling and impedance matching element, a capacitive coupler, a cavity combiner including a coaxial-cavity section providing electromagnetic communication with the capacitive coupler, and a phased-array antenna/one or more phased-array antennas. The RF energy coupling and impedance matching element is in electromagnetic communication with the one or more phased-array antennas via the cavity combiner. The cavity combiner includes a center conductor configured and disposed to project from the coaxal-cavity section such that the cavity combiner defines a co-axial cross-sectional configuration. The power amplifying radiator may be included within a high power microwave system.

A self-sustained atmospheric pressure system for absorbing or scattering electromagnetic waves using a capillary discharge electrode configuration plasma panel and a method for using the same. Of particular interest is the application of this system to vary the level of exposure or duration of an object to electromagnetic waves, or as a diffraction grating to separate multiple wavelength electromagnetic waves into its respective wavelength components. The generation of the non-thermal plasma is controlled by varying the supply of power to the plasma panel. When a substantially uniform plasma is generated the plasma panel absorbs substantially all of the incident electromagnetic waves thereby substantially prohibiting exposure of the object (disposed downstream of the plasma panel) to the electromagnetic waves. If the generated plasma is non-uniform the plasma panel reflects at least some of the electromagnetic waves incident on its surface. When a multiple wavelength electromagnetic source is employed, the plasma panel scatters the waves reflected from its surface in different directions according to their respective individual wavelengths. The degree of separation between the various wavelength components depends on arrangement of and spacing between the capillaries. Thus, the system may be used as a diffraction grating for separating multiple wavelength electromagnetic waves into its respective wavelength components.

Use of self-sustained atmospheric pressure plasma for the scattering and absorption of electromagnetic radiation

A method and apparatus for stabilizing glow plasma discharges by suppressing the transition from glow-to-arc includes a perforated dielectric plate having an upper surface and a lower surface and a plurality of holes extending therethrough. The perforated dielectric plate is positioned over the cathode. Each of the holes acts as a separate active current limiting micro-channel that prevents the overall current density from increasing above the threshold for the glow-to-arc transition. This allows for a stable glow discharge to be maintained for a wide range of operating pressures (up to atmospheric pressures) and in a wide range of electric fields include DC and RF fields of varying strength.

A plasma reactor including a first dielectric having at least one capillary defined therethrough, and a segmented electrode including a plurality of electrode segments, each electrode segment is disposed proximate an associated capillary. Each electrode segment may be formed in different shapes, for example, a pin, stud, washer, ring, or disk. The electrode segment may be hollow, solid, or made from a porous material. The reactor may include a second electrode and dielectric with the first and second dielectrics separated by a predetermined distance to form a channel therebetween into which the plasma exiting from the capillaries in the first dielectric is discharged. The fluid to be treated is passed through the channel and exposed to the plasma discharge. If the electrode segment is hollow or made of a porous material, then the fluid to be treated may be fed into the capillaries in the first dielectric and exposed therein to the maximum plasma density. The fluid to be treated may be exposed to the plasma discharge both in the capillaries as well as in the channel between the two dielectrics. The plasma reactor is more energy efficient than conventional devices and does not require a carrier gas to remain stable at atmospheric pressure. The plasma reactor has a wide range of application, such as the destruction of pollutants in a fluid, the generation of ozone, the pretreatment of air for modifying or improving combustion, and the destruction of various organic compounds, and surface cleaning of objects.

The plasma display panel of the present invention includes a first electrode on the first substrate, a first dielectric layer on the first substrate including the first electrode, a plurality of second electrodes completely buried in the first dielectric layer, a second dielectric layer on the first dielectric layer including the first electrode, a third dielectric layer on the second substrate, a plurality of UV visible photon conversion layers on the third dielectric layer, a plurality of barrier ribs between each of the UV visible photon conversion layers and connecting the first and second substrates, and a discharge chamber between the first and second substrates defined by the barrier ribs, wherein the first dielectric layer includes at least one trench type discharge space exposing a portion of the first electrode to the discharge chamber.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for the generation, manipulation and detection of plasmon, and/or solitons, both linear and non linear, in semi-conductor heterostructures. The apparatus includes a galium arsonide substrate, a two-dimensional electron gas well (2-DEG) (,) form thereon and a thin layer of Aluminum galium arsonide (AlGaAs) placed thereover. Method and apparatus for modulation of guided plasmons

A method and apparatus for stabilizing glow plasma discharges by suppressing the transition from glow-to-arc includes a perforated or apertured dielectric plate having an upper surface and a lower surface and one or more holes extending therethrough. In another embodiment, the device comprises an AC glow plasma discharge device wherein an apertured dielectric is placed over an electrode. The apertured dielectric may have one or more apertures or capillaries extending therethrough. The frequency of the AC source is adjusted to be matched to the characteristics of the apertured dielectric. At a proper frequency, jets come out of the apertures or capillaries, i.e. the capillaries get turned on and become electrodes to the opposite electrode. As such, the device goes from a glow state to a capillary plasma electrode discharge state. A second dielectric may be applied to the second electrode and the second dielectric may be solid or may be apertured.
