A voltage regulator for providing power to a system includes feedforward circuitry receiving a signal from the system indicating the current needed by the system, and the feedforward circuitry causes the voltage regulator to change the voltage regulator output current in response to the signal from the system.

Voltage regulator with adaptive feed-forward compensation for periodic loads

Disclosed examples include inverting buck-boost DC-DC converter circuits with a switching circuit to alternate between first and second buck mode phases for buck operation in a first mode, including connecting an inductor and a capacitor in series between an input node and a reference node to charge the inductor and the capacitor in the first buck mode phase, and connecting the inductor and the capacitor in parallel between an output node and the reference node to discharge the inductor and the capacitor to the output node. For boost operation in a second mode, the switching circuit alternates between connecting the inductor and the capacitor in series between the input node and the reference node to discharge the inductor and charge the capacitor in a first boost mode phase, and connecting the inductor between the input node and the reference node to charge the inductor and connecting the capacitor between the first output node and the reference node to discharge the capacitor to deliver power to the output node in a second boost mode phase.

Buck-boost DC-DC converter

In an example, a dual-phase inverting buck-boost power converter for use with at least first and second energy storage elements includes an inverting buck-boost power converter and an inverting boost converter. In an example, the inverting buck-boost power converter is coupled between an input node and an output node of the dual-phase inverting buck-boost power converter and includes a first plurality of switches operable to couple to the first energy storage element, wherein the inverting buck-boost power converter is operable to supply a first load current. In an example, the inverting boost converter is coupled in parallel with the inverting buck-boost power converter between the input node and the output node of the dual-phase inverting buck-boost power converter and includes a second plurality of switches operable to couple to the first and the second energy storage elements, wherein the inverting boost converter is operable to supply a second load current.

Inverting buck-boost power converter

In described examples, a system includes a transformer including a primary winding and a secondary winding. The system also includes a primary side circuit coupled to the primary winding of the transformer. The primary side circuit includes a primary controller. The system further includes a secondary side circuit coupled to the secondary winding of the transformer. The primary controller coupled to cause the primary side circuit to transfer power and intermittently transmit data to the secondary side circuit via the primary winding and the secondary winding of the transformer.

Electrical transformer to transmit data and power

A DCDC converter includes a transconductance amplifier, a comparator, a current driving component, an output impedance, a switch, a clamp resistor and a p-channel FET. The transconductance amplifier outputs a transconductance current and a switch control signal. The comparator has a two n-channel FET inputs forming a differential pair and outputs a compared signal. The current driving component generates an output current based on the compared signal. The output impedance component generates an output DC voltage based on the output current. The switch is between the two n-channel FETs and can open and close based on the switch control signal. The clamp resistor is arranged in series with the switch. The p-channel FET is in series with the clamp resistor and is controlled by the output DC voltage.

Startup clamp circuit for non-complimentary differential pair in DCDC converter system

A controller for a DC-DC converter includes a state machine and a plurality of drivers for controlling switches in the DC-DC converter, where each state in the state machine determines a state of the drivers, and a plurality of timers, where each state in the state machine, other than a passive state, has an associated timer for the state of the drivers.

Buck-boost converter controller

An inverting buck voltage converter constructed of a switched-mode hybrid topology, with a capacitive input stage and an inductive output stage. The input stage operates as a charge pump to charge a flying capacitor connected in series with an inductor in the output stage. Clock circuitry generates first and second non-overlapping clock phases. In the second clock phase, the flying capacitor is charged to the input voltage, with a flying node between the flying capacitor and the output inductor connected at ground through a rectifier, while in the first clock phase, the flying capacitor supports the inductor current. The arrangement of the flying capacitor and inductor is such that the voltage appearing at the output terminal is inverted from the input voltage. Continuous output current is provided. Current limiting techniques protect the flying capacitor from overcurrent conditions.

Hybrid capacitive-inductive voltage converter

In a switched mode inductive DCDC converter having a first mode that conducts a first current path through an inductor and through a first switch, and a second mode that conducts a second current path through the inductor and through a second switch, a detecting component detects a parameter. The detecting component outputs a biasing signal extend the turn OFF time of one of the switches in order to decrease a voltage build up on the other switch.

Switched mode DCDC converter efficiency improvement by adaptive driver stage

Disclosed examples include high-efficiency integrated circuits and inductive capacitive DC-DC converters with a first converter stage including first and second switches and an inductor, and a second converter stage including third and fourth switches and a flying capacitor. A dual mode control circuit regulates output voltage signal in a first mode when the output voltage signal is below a threshold by pulse width modulating the switches of the first converter stage. When the output voltage exceeds the threshold, the control circuit operates in a second mode with a first state to close the first and third switches, and a second state to close the fourth switch to connect the inductor in series with the flying capacitor. Dual mode operation of the first and second stages facilitates buck-boost operation with reduced inductor losses and converter switching losses, and the integrated circuit can be used in boost, buck or other configurations.

High efficiency inductive capacitive DC-DC converter

Single inductor-multiple output (SIMO) DC-DC converter, having an output node which is coupled to one side of the single inductor to receive a load current. A plurality of output switches which are coupled to the output node for switching the load current from the output node to a plurality of output lines is provided. Each output line has a load capacitor. Further, each output line may comprise a charge pump which is coupled to the output switch and the load capacitor of the output line.

Single inductor-multiple output DC-DC converter, method for operating the same and electronic device comprising the converter

A DCDC converter includes a controller, an up/down counter, a first power stage and a second power stage. The controller generates an up/down control signal. The up/down counter generates a first power stage control signal and a second power stage control signal based on the up/down control signal. The first power stage generates a first output current at a first phase and at a first voltage based on the first power stage control signal. The second power stage generates a second output current at a second phase based on the second power stage control signal. The up/down counter modifies the first power stage control signal to control the first power stage such that the first output current attenuates from a first power stage output to a secondary first power stage output. The controller can further output a control signal to modify the first voltage of the first power stage.

System and method for single phase transition for multiphase DCDC converters

A power supply unit includes a boost converter having an input node and output node. The output node is coupled to a high-side of an H-bridge that is for supplying power to a capacitive load that is coupled to a first node and to a second node of the H-bridge. A first diode is coupled in forward direction between the first node of the H-bridge and the input node of the boost converter. A second diode is coupled in forward direction between the second node of the H-bridge and the input node of the boost converter.
