An electrodialysis treatment system utilizing a plurality of disparate layers of an electrodialysis cell stack for separation of components in liquid mixtures. The system for electrodialysis treatment for purification and deionizing liquids includes providing an operation of pretreatment by filtration for removal of inorganic and organic contaminants and generating a filtrate effluent. An adsorbing operation for adsorbing organic contaminants from the filtrate effluent of the pretreatment operation is provided by utilizing activated carbon adsorption and generating a liquid fraction. A deionizing operation for continuously purifying the liquid fraction is provided by utilizing an electrodialysis stack having a plurality of ion exchange membranes and separating gaskets for selectively removing contaminant ions from the liquid fraction of the adsorbing operation. The deionizing operation provides continuous purifying and deionizing of the liquid fraction to generate ultra-pure water or other purified liquid mixtures.

System for electrodialysis treatment of liquids

An apparatus and system of operation of an electrodialysis membrane and gasket stack for separation of components in liquid mixtures is disclosed. The system of operation for purification and deionizing liquids includes an operation of pretreatment by filtration for removal of inorganic contaminants, includes an operation of adsorption for removing organic contaminants by activated carbon adsorption, and includes an operation of deionizing for removing ions from the effluent liquids. The deionizing operation includes an apparatus having an electrodialysis stack of a plurality of ion exchange membranes and separating gaskets for selectively removing contaminant ions. The combination of treatment operations and the deionizing operation provides a continuous operating system with minimized down-time and improved efficiencies over prior methods for purification of liquid mixtures.

Electrodialysis membrane and gasket stack system

A rotary hopper includes a door, which is pivotally mounted on the main mounting plate for pivoting about a vertical axis, having a transparent element to enable viewing of the interior of the rotary hopper. The pivotally mounted door enables easy access to the interior of the hopper. On the opposite side of the main mounting plate from the door, a shaft is supported for rotatably supporting a cone having a gauging ring with gauging grooves mounted thereon. A recess in the cone, the interior of the gauging ring, and the interior of the transparent element on the door form a reservoir in the rotary hopper for the fastener elements. On the side of the main mounting plate having the door, the main mounting plate has a vertical groove to receive the fastener element in each of the gauging grooves when each of the gauging grooves is aligned therewith during rotation of the gauging ring. The vertical groove communicates with a setting station of an attaching apparatus.

Rotary hopper for an attaching apparatus

First and second complementary articles of hardware are fed to a single attaching station by first and second reciprocating feed-in fingers, respectively. Different types of first articles are selected during initial retraction of the first feed-in finger for advancement to the attaching station along a first path during advancement of the finger. Different types of second articles are selected during initial retraction of the second feed-in finger for advancement along a second path to the attaching station during advancement of the finger. During its retraction, the first finger is diverted from its first path at least when it would engage the first selected article. If the second selected article is disposed so as to be engaged by the second finger during its retraction, the second finger has a cooperating surface to cause it to move from the second path beneath the second selected article.

Fastener attaching apparatus having multiple sources of fastener hardware

Two mating fastener elements are attached to material at a setting station through a first electric motor. The motor rotates a cam for causing a first pivotally mounted arm to move a support, which supports one of the fastener elements, towards a ram, which is moved by a second pivotally mounted arm attached to the cam rotated by the motor. A second electric motor, which makes at least one revolution and may make a plurality of revolutions during each energization of the first motor, is energized when the first motor, which makes one revolution during each energization, is energized. Each of two hoppers has a plurality of one of the fastener elements. The second motor activates a knife blade in each of the two hoppers so that one of the knife blades moves upwardly in its hopper while the other is moving downwardly to feed the fastener elements within the hopper therefrom for receipt by the support or the ram.

Apparatus for attaching fasteners to material

A strip of acetate of a selected length is cut from a ribbon of acetate by a heated cutting wire after the strip has a middle portion clamped between two pairs of fingers. A first outer portion of the strip is then folded beneath the middle portion of the strip at an angle thereto and adjacent thereto after which a second outer portion of the strip is folded at an angle to both the first outer portion and the middle portion and adjacent the first outer portion. The folded portions of the strip are held in the folded relationship as the fingers are advanced to an attaching apparatus at which the portions of the strip are attached to each other to form a bow and to a garment. Activation of the attaching apparatus is prevented if the operator has an extremity disposed in an area where the extremity will be struck by a portion of the attaching apparatus during activation of the attaching apparatus.

Bow forming apparatus

A strip of material is advanced a first selected distance along a feed path past a cutter. Then, the free end of the strip of material is gripped by a gripper and pulled a second selected distance so that the strip of material is disposed across a path of a reciprocating frame. The frame is advanced so that a retainer holds the portion of the strip of material to be cut at the time that it is cut by the cutter. The ends of the cut segment, which is held by the retainer, are folded by two pairs of folding pins supported by the frame to form a folded loop. The folded loop is advanced to a sewing machine, when a sewing machine operator activates a switch, to position the folded loop on a sewing plate with the frame being retracted after the folded loop is clamped to the sewing plate and prior to sewing. The movements of the frame and the gripper are controlled from a single driven cam shaft having three cams thereon with one having a plurality of cam profiles. If the strip of material exceeds a predetermined thickness, the frame is prevented from being advanced to the position in which the retainer holds the portion of the strip of material to be cut prior to cutting so that the cut segment is not used as a folded loop.

Apparatus for forming cut segments of a selected length with at least

A cut segment of a strip of material is clamped intermediate its ends, prior to being cut, by two separate clamping elements. In one embodiment, one of the clamping elements is cammed towards the other clamping element as the clamping elements are moved to position the cut segment at a position for attachment to other material by a sewing machine, for example. This forms a loop or slack portion between the clamped portions of the cut segment so that attachment of the free ends of the cut segment produces a large loop when each end of the cut segment is attached to the other material. In another embodiment, one of the ends of the cut segment may be folded to form an overlapped portion for attachment to the other material so that a double thickness of the cut segment is attached to the other material. This embodiment still has one of the separate clamping elements movable towards the other to form a loop or slack portion between the clamped portions of the cut segment. In a further embodiment, each end of the cut segments can be folded to form an overlapped portion so that it can be attached with double thickness to the other material. In this embodiment, the two separate clamping elements remain fixed as to their distance between each other so that no loop or slack portion can be formed therebetween by camming one of the separate clamping elements towards the other.

Apparatus for holding a cut segment of a selected length

An article is clamped in a predetermined position on a support, which is movable along a reciprocating path by a stepping motor. This movement of the support positions selected and spaced portions of the article at a fixed location at which a fastener element is attached to an edge of the article. The movement of the stepping motor is controlled by a computer program whereby the selected and spaced portions of the article are spaced from each other as desired.

Article transport apparatus

A fastener element is oriented by rolling the element along a friction surface until a projection on the back of the element engages a ledge extending along the path of movement of the element such that the element then slides with a predetermined orientation. Additionally, an orienting element having a sinuous edge for orienting double pronged elements can be retracted.

Apparatus for orienting and attaching fasteners to an article

An apparatus for attaching fastener elements and the like to articles includes an indicator extending downward from a slide bar which advances one of a pair of mating elements to an upper station. The indicator points out the position on an article where the fastening elements will be secured to the article and is automatically retracted when the slide bar is retracted. Additionally, detent members are provided on resilient guide bars for holding elements in an intermediate position along a slide path, and a ram is provided with vertical extensions to maintain orientation of a fastener element.
