A method for providing pain relief includes topically applying to skin tissue an effective amount of higher homologs of isoparaffins, ranging from about C.sub.12 to C.sub.18. Compositions of the present invention include, with the isoparaffins in a mixture, at least one from the group consisting of salicylate, capsaicin, camphor, and menthol. Other constituents may be added for form creams or lotions.

Intraocular lenses of non-rigid material are disclosed. In one embodiment, an intraocular lens of HEMA plastic or other soft plastic is cut to a size that is small for emplacing but fills the capsular bag of an eye after it has been emptied of its natural contents. The softening and expanding of a hydrophilic lens is caused by the aqueous humor uptake into the dry lens from the capsule environment. Means such as concentric grooves are also disclosed which engage the rough interior walls of the capsular bag to position and retain the lens in place.

A doorway mounted flood barrier including a barrier wall having two opposite vertical side edges and a horizontal bottom edge, and retainer means disposed between the barrier wall and a lower portion of the doorway for holding the barrier wall sealingly in the lower portion of the doorway.

A bifocal contact lens includes a near vision portion having a first radius curvature and a far vision portion concentric with the near vision portion and having a second radius of curvature. A junction is formed where the near vision and far vision portions meet. This junction is polished to remove the sharp demarkation between far and near vision portions so that an annulus of multiple radii is formed where the two vision portions meet. This annulus prevents double vision associated with sharp junctions between far and near portions.

A method for altering the radius of curvature of the cornea which includes the steps of making incisions into the cornea and affixing a rigid gas permeable contact lens, having predetermined radius of curvature, to the eye to have the cornea conform to the shape of the lens.

An intraocular lens of HEMA plastic cut while hard into a round lens with concentric grooves around peripheral margins. The lens is cut to a size that is small for emplacing but softens and expands to fill a posterior chamber capsule after it has been emptied of its natural contents. The softening and expanding of the lens is caused by the aqueous humor uptake into the of the dry lens from the capsule environment. The concentric grooves frictionally engage the rough interior walls of the said capsule to position and retain the lens in place therein.
