A method for installation of a flexible resin impregnable liner for lining a lateral pipe which leads into a main pipe having at one end a flexible collar for installation at the location where the lateral liner meets the main, wherein after installation the collar extends along the interior of the main seating against the opening of the lateral. The flexible liner is installed by inserting the liner into the lateral pipe and using fluid under pressure to expand the lining against the lateral wall to form seals with the collar at the lateral/main pipe junction.

A method of lining an existing pipeline or passageway with a lining tube of a resin absorbent material impregnated with a curable synthetic resin is provided. A lining tube inserted into the pipeline and urged by pressure against the pipeline or passageway surface and heat is applied is stages to lengths of the lining tube by isolating a length of the uncured flexible lining from the remainder of the lining tube by expanding an expansible and contractible member inside the lining. A heated fluid medium is supplied to the isolated length so that the heat cures the resin within the isolated length. The contractible member is contracted and displaced along the length to isolate a new section of the lining tube which is then cured.

A liner for a lateral pipe which leads into a main pipe having at one end a collar for installation at the location where the lateral liner meets the main, the collar extending along the interior of the main seating against the opening of the lateral. The liner mounted in a launching device is installed by everting the liner through an opening in the collar by means of fluid under pressure supplied through a pressure pipe in the launching device, the launcher held in position by an inflatable bladder which is inflated by said fluid, and against the collar for sealing the lateral/main pipe junction.

An underground pipeline or passageway is lined by having a plastics film pre-liner tube applied thereto by inflation, and the tube whilst inflated has an applicator pulled therethrough from which a fluent curable or hardenable composition issues and is applied directly to the inside of the inflated tube to form a layer which cures or hardens to form a lining. Preferably a second tube is applied to the inside of the composition layer to hold it in position whilst it cures or hardens.

The tensile strength, and particularly the ability to resist changes in cross-sectional configuration, of a rigidifiable-in-situ passageway lining material comprising a fibrous body with a settable resin forming a part thereof, the fibers in that fibrous body having their lengths generally extending transversely to the plane thereof, is enhanced by incorporating thereinto a reinforcing layer formed of fibers with their lengths generally extending in the plane of the lining, and preferably circumferentially when the lining defines a tube. A pair of such reinforcing layers may be provided, each near a different surface of the lining, thereby to simultaneously protect against buckling and ovality.

A method of lining a passageway comprising pulling a first flexible lining pipe sized to the passageway to be lined into the passageway, the first lining tube comprising at least one resin absorbent layer impregnated with curable synthetic resin, and by the eversion into the first lining tube of a second flexible lining tube sized to the first tube inner diameter, to the inner surface of which a second lining tube before eversion is applied an initiator for the resin impregnating the first lining tube whereby, as the second lining tube everts into and along the first tube when in the passageway, the first tube is pressed against the passageway surface by fluid pressure used to evert the second tube, and also the initiator comes into contact with the resin of the first tube and commences and effects cure of the same.

The invention provides a method of applying a resin impregnated lining sleeve to a length of passageway surface wherein the sleeve first of all has a carrier tube everted into the sleeve from one end and out of the other end, the carrier tube is re-inverted to draw the sleeve into the carrier tube and then the assembly of carrier tube and sleeve is positioned in relation to the passageway length to be lined and the carrier tube re-everted to position the sleeve on the surface in the required position. The resin is subsequently cured and the carrier tube removed leaving a hard tubular lining shell on the passageway surface.

The present invention provides a material which comprises a laminate of a fibrous layer such as a felt which can be impregnated with curable synthetic resin, and bonded to the felt is a membrane comprises three layers namely an inner layer of a low softening point material bonded to the felt, a barrier layer which represents a barrier to the aggressive components of the resin such as the styrene, and an outer layer bonded to the outside of the fibrous layer to provide for the application of patches and sealing tapes by heat or solvent welding.

The invention describes a cutter which is for positioning in an underground pipe which is too small for man entry. The cutter is for cutting holes in previously applied pipe lining which cover lateral connections. The cutting must be controlled from above ground. Flexibility and positionability is achieved by mounting the cutter head at the free end of a boom body, the other end of which is mounted through a universal joint to a mounting so that the boom can swing in any direction. The cutter is controlled in its movement by coupling it to a master unit located and controlled above ground.

The invention provides for the light curing of a synthetic resin which is light curable, and is arranged as a layer upon the surface of a pipeline or passageway. The curing lamps are enabled to be pulled into the pipeline or passageway by virtue of inserting a tubular member into the passageway which is inflatable by fluid pressure so as to hold the resin layer in position. The lamps pass through the inflatable tubular member so that radiation therefrom will fall on the layer of resin and cure or initiate the cure of the same.

An apparatus for the inspection of the interior of pipelines or passageways, which apparatus includes a T.V. inspection camera and a cable connected to the camera for both supplying electricity and for pulling the assembly along the pipeline or passageway, the camera being arranged at an angle to the pipeline or passageway axis, and by actuating a drive means of the assembly the cable forms a drive member and is propelled through the assembly pushing the camera up a lateral pipeline for the inspection of same.
