An orthodontic article is described comprising the reaction product of a free-radically polymerizable resin; a first free-radical photoinitiator having sufficient absorbance at a first wavelength range; and a second free-radical initiator selected from a second photoinitiator having sufficient absorbance at a second wavelength range, wherein the second wavelength range is different than the first wavelength range, or a thermal free-radical initiator. In some embodiments, the first free-radical photoinitiator exhibits a maximum absorbance at a wavelength of the range of 370-380 nm or 320-330 nm and/or comprises photoinitiator groups selected from acyl phosphine oxide or alkyl amine acetophenone. Also described are photopolymerizable compositions and methods.

Orthodontic articles comprising polymerized composition comprising at least two free-radical initiators

The present disclosure provides a photopolymerizable composition. The photopolymerizable composition includes at least one urethane component, at least one monofunctional reactive diluent, an initiator, and optionally an inhibitor. The present disclosure also provides an article including the reaction product of the photopolymerizable composition. Further, the present disclosure provides a method of making an article. The method includes (i) providing a photopolymerizable composition and (ii) selectively curing the photopolymerizable composition to form an article. The method optionally also includes (iii) curing unpolymerized urethane component and/or reactive diluent remaining after step (ii). Further, methods are provided, including receiving, by a manufacturing device having one or more processors, a digital object comprising data specifying an article; and generating, with the manufacturing device by an additive manufacturing process, the article based on the digital object. A system is also provided, including a display that displays a 3D model of an article; and one or more processors that, in response to the 3D model selected by a user, cause a 3D printer to create a physical object of an article.

Photopolymerizable compositions including a urethane component and a monofunctional reactive diluent, articles, and methods

Orthodontic articles and polymerizable resin compositions are described. The orthodontic article comprises a cured composition comprising the reaction product of free-radically polymerizable resin comprising 30 to 70 wt. %, inclusive, of at least one urethane component, and 25 to 70 wt. %, inclusive, of reactive diluent(s) comprising at least one monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer. The polymerizable resin comprises no greater than 35 wt. % of reactive diluent(s) having a high affinity for water. Reactive diluent(s) such as monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomers having a high affinity for water have low log P values. In one embodiment, the polymerizable resin comprises at least one acidic monomer.

Orthodontic articles comprising cured free-radically polymerizable composition with improved strength in aqueous environment

Curable compositions, cured compositions, articles containing the curable or cured compositions, and methods of making the articles are provided. More particularly, the curable compositions contain a (meth)acrylate-based polymer having pendant (meth)acryloyl groups, at least one monomer having a single ethylenically unsaturated group, a photoinitiator that includes an acyl phosphine oxide, and a thixotropic agent. The curable compositions can be printed or dispensed, if desired, and the cured compositions are pressure-sensitive adhesives.

A quantum dot film article includes a first barrier film, a second barrier film, and a quantum dot layer separating the first barrier from the second barrier film. The quantum dot layer includes quantum dots dispersed in a polymer material. The polymer material includes a methacrylate polymer, an epoxy polymer and a photoinitiator.

A process and apparatus for producing a gradient nanovoided article, a gradient nanovoided coating, and a gradient low refractive index coating is described. The process includes providing a first solution of a polymerizable material in a solvent, and providing a first environment proximate a first region of the coating and a different second environment proximate an adjacent region of the coating. The process further includes at least partially polymerizing the polymerizable material to form a composition that includes an insoluble polymer matrix and a second solution. The insoluble polymer matrix includes a plurality of nanovoids that are filled with the second solution, and a major portion of the solvent from the second solution is removed. A first volume fraction of the plurality of nanovoids proximate the first region of the coating is less than a second volume fraction of the plurality of nanovoids proximate an adjacent of the coating. An apparatus for the process is also described, and includes a web line, a coating section, a partial polymerization section, and a solvent removal section.

Process for gradient nanovoided article

The present disclosure relates to forming a bond with a high peel resistance between a bonding layer and an adjacent barrier layer. Such articles are particularly useful in the preparation of a device, in particular a luminescent device, and a method is described for assembly of the luminescent device. The luminescent device includes an encapsulation system using flexible transparent barrier film and an ultraviolet (UV) radiation curable (meth)acrylate matrix. The moisture sensitive luminescent material can be, for example, a quantum dot material disposed in a film, or a film construction that includes an OLED structure.

A quantum dot film article including a first barrier layer, a second barrier layer; and a quantum dot layer between the first barrier layer and the second barrier layer. The quantum dot layer includes quantum dots dispersed in a matrix including a cured adhesive composition. A quantum dot film article includes a first barrier layer; a second barrier layer; and a quantum dot layer between the first barrier layer and the second barrier layer. The quantum dot layer has quantum dots dispersed in a matrix including a cured adhesive composition, wherein the adhesive composition includes: an epoxide; an amino-functional compound of Formula I: wherein A is a monocyclic or a polycyclic alkylene group, or a monocyclic or a polycyclic heteroalkylene group, and m and n are integers each independently selected from 0 to 5; and a radiation curable methacrylate compound.

A backlight includes a light source and one or more light recycling films. The light source generates light that exits the light source with an angular exit distribution. The light recycling films are oriented in relation to the light source so that the prism peaks of the recycling films are oriented away from the light source. The recycling films have a range of optimal incident angles that allow light to pass through the recycling films without recycling. The components of the light source, the characteristics of the recycling films, or both, are configured to control the overlap between the exit distribution of the light source and the optimal incident angle range of the recycling films.

Systems and methods for controlling backlight output characteristics

The present disclosure describes a display system including a liquid crystal display panel and a light source emitting light capable of emitting light. A nonwoven diffuser element is disposed between the light source and the liquid crystal display panel. The polymeric nonwoven diffuser is non-orientated and has a fiber diameter of less than 50 micrometers, a fiber aspect ratio of length/diameter of greater than 5 and a basis weight in a range from 10 to 80 grams/meter.

Presently described are microstructured films, such as brightness enhancing films, having a microstructured surface. The microstructured surface comprises the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising at least 20 wt-% of inorganic nanoparticles and a non-aromatic multi-(meth)acrylate monomer comprising at least three contiguous alkylene oxide repeat units. The multi-(meth)acrylate monomer typically comprises two or three (meth)acrylate groups. The alkylene oxide repeat units have the formula &#x2014;[O-L]- wherein each L is independently a C-Calkylene. The gradient optical film includes a binder, a plurality of particles, and a plurality of interconnected voids having a local volume fraction. The local volume fraction of the plurality of interconnected voids varies along a thickness direction of the gradient optical film. The refractive index of the gradient optical film can also varies along a thickness direction of the gradient optical film, as the refractive index can also depend upon the local volume fraction of the plurality of interconnected voids.
