Disclosed is a method of determining characteristics of a printer, the method comprising the steps of receiving print data, defining dot locations to be printed on a print medium, determining from the dot locations a dot frequency measure reflecting the number of dots to be printed on at least a part of the print medium, forming a simulated reference image of the print data comprising simulated dots corresponding to the dot locations in the print data, determining a size of the simulated dots in the reference image, this size being inversely related to the dot frequency measure, printing the print data on the print medium using the image forming apparatus to form a printed image, and determining characteristics of the image forming apparatus by comparing the printed image and the simulated reference image.

A method of displaying an image using at least a first projector and a second projector includes projecting a calibration pattern using the first projector, the calibration pattern being embedded in a first portion of an image projected by the first projector. The method determines a contribution of the second projector to projecting a second portion of the image to an overlap area, the overlap area having a contribution from the first and second projectors, wherein the contribution is an intensity of a color channel. The determined contribution of the second projector to the overlap area is modified to allow the calibration pattern of the first projector to be detectable to a capture device, the modification having a pattern corresponding to the calibration pattern. The image is then displayed using the first projector and the modified contribution of the second projector.

Calibration feature masking in overlap regions to improve mark detectability

Disclosed is method of measuring the displacement between a reference region of a reference image and a sample region of a sample image. The method spatially varies the reference region using a one-dimensional filter having complex kernel values, wherein a length (radius) and direction (angle or tangent segment) of the filter is a function of position in the reference region. The method then measures a displacement between the reference region and the sample region by comparing the spatially varied reference region and the sample region.

Estimation of shift and small image distortion

A method of selecting a plurality of patches (e.g.,) within a region of a page (e.g.,), for use in image alignment, is disclosed. One or more candidate image alignment patches distributed across a region of the page are determined, based on content in the page region, each candidate patch being associated with a feature strength value. A distribution of grid nodes is applied to the page region, at least one attribute of the distribution of grid nodes being dynamically adjusted according to the distribution of the candidate patches across the page region. A corresponding patch from the distribution of candidate patches is selected for each of a plurality of the grid nodes, wherein each of the selected patches is selected based on proximity of the selected patch to a corresponding grid node.

Disclosed is a method of classifying segmented contents of a scanned image of a document. The method comprise partitioning the scanned image into color segmented tiles at pixel level. The method then generates superpositioned segmented contents, each segmented content representing related color segments in at least one color segmented tile. Statistics are then calculated for each segmented content using pixel level statistics from each of the tile color segments included in segmented content, and then determines a classification for each segmented content based on the calculated statistics. The segmented content may be macroregions. The macroregions may form part of a multi-layered document representation of the document. Each of a plurality of tiles of predetermined size of the image are converted into a representation having a plurality of layers, the representation corresponding to at least one said tiles comprising multiple colored layers, each tile comprising a superposition of the corresponding colored layers. For each of the colored layers, merging is performed with adjacent ones of the tiles, thereby generating a multi-layered document representation.

Colour document layout analysis with multi-level decomposition

A method () of creating a document comprising a modifiable shape, is disclosed. The method analyzes an image to detect at least a graphical object. The method matches the detected graphical object with at least one of a plurality of predetermined modifiable closed-form non-textual template shapes (e.g.,) comprising control parameters for modifying the closed-form non-textual template shape in a non-affine manner. The number of control parameters of the predetermined modifiable closed-form non-textual template shape is less than the number of sections making up the modifiable closed-form non-textual template shape. The method creates a document comprising the at least one modifiable closed-form non-textual template shape.

Recognition of parameterised shapes from document images

A method () of creating an editable document is disclosed. The method analyses a bitmap image to detect at least one bit map representation of a graphical object and a bitmap representation of a line object. The method matches the graphical object with one of a plurality of predetermined template shapes (e.g.,), the template shape having one or more predetermined non-contiguous connection points. The method selects one of the predetermined connection points for the line object if at least one end of the line object is within a predetermined distance of the selected connection point and associates the line object with the selected connection point. The method creates an editable document comprising the template shape with the line object connected thereto, wherein the line object remains associated with the selected connection point upon the template shape being modified within the document such that the line object remains dynamically connected to the template shape.

Method and apparatus for dynamic connector analysis

A method (), an apparatus, and a computer program product for automatically producing a compact representation of a colour document are disclosed. In the method, a digital image of a colour-document page is segmented () into connected components in one-pass, block raster order. The digital image of the page is partitioned into foreground and background images using layout analysis () based on compact, connected-component statistics of the whole page. At least one portion of the background image where at least one portion of the foreground image obscures the background image is inpainting () in one-pass block raster order. The foreground and background images are combined () to form a compact document. A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for segmenting a digital image comprising a plurality of pixels are also disclosed.
