A method for discovery profile based unified credential processing for disparate security domains can include loading a discovery profile specifying types of manageable resources to be discovered during discovery of manageable resources and authentication protocols for use in accessing each type of the resources. The method also can include discovering the resources across disparate security domains and selecting a discovered one of the resources in a particular one of the security domains for a systems management task. The method further can include transforming an authentication credential not specific to the particular one of the security domains to a mapped authentication credential specific to the particular one of the security domains and authenticating into the particular one of the security domains with the mapped authentication credential utilizing an authentication protocol specified by the profile in order to perform the systems management task on the selected discovered one of the resources.

Discovery profile based unified credential processing for disparate security domains

Organization and assignment of access privileges to resources in a computer network. The resources of the network are organized into a hierarchical tree structure, with each node in the tree representing a resource, resource group, or resource instance. Read and/or write permission to one or more resources may be explicitly granted to the resource or implicitly granted based upon the location of the resource in the hierarchical structure. The access rights attach to the resource(s). Upon movement of the resource within the tree structure or to an alternate tree structure, the access rights associated therewith remain with the relocated resource.

Visibility control of resources

In one embodiment, a method includes discovering a resource using a first discovery module, the first discovery module being for identifying resources having identifying information known to the first discovery module. The method also includes discovering the resource using a second discovery module, the second discovery module being for identifying resources having identifying information not known to the first discovery module. An object associated with the resource is created by the first discovery module if the resource has identifying information known to the first discovery module. In addition, an object associated with the resource is created by the second discovery module if the resource has identifying information not known to the first discovery module.
