A virtual chassis system includes a plurality of network nodes configured with a master virtual chassis address. The network nodes are connected by virtual fabric link (VFLs) that provide a connection for exchange of packets between the network nodes. The packets include source MAC addresses and associated hardware device information, such as source chassis ID, source network interface identifier and source port identifier information. The network nodes use this information to maintain synchronized MAC address tables for forwarding of packets in the virtual chassis system.

System and method for a virtual chassis system

A network device for distributing authentication information between authorized nodes for purposes of concurrently 'pre-authenticating' a mobile user at a plurality of points throughout a LAN is disclosed. When a client attempts to access the network through the network device, the network device attempts to authenticate the client based on the credentials presented by the user. If authenticated, the client is admitted into the network at the network device and the client's pre-authentication information transmitted to one or more network nodes associated with an authentication group. Upon receipt of the pre-authentication information, the one or more network nodes are authorized to admit the client into the network at those nodes in addition to the network device at which the client was initially authenticated, thereby concurrently pre-authorizing the client at multiple points across the network.

Secure authentication advertisement protocol

An approach for saving power in a fiber ports of a network system is provided. An instance of a period of inactivity for a fiber port of the network system is determined. Power delivery to a transmit laser of an SFP (small form-factor pluggable) device of the fiber port is terminated during at least a portion of the period of inactivity. Power delivery to the SFP device is maintained while power delivery to the transmit laser is terminated.

Network system with energy efficient fiber port

The preferred methodology for manufacture of a PCIe card of the preferred embodiment involves placing a switch such as a switching ASIC on a PCIe card and operatively connecting the switching ASIC to the PCIe card. The preferred methodology also includes operatively connecting a power management module to the PCIe card and including CXP connectors on the PCIe card. The PCIe card of the preferred embodiment includes a power management module (i.e. a power converter) and a switching ASIC. The PCIe card of the preferred embodiment further includes three CXP connectors. In one embodiment, the supporting CPU for switch control and management is placed on the PCIe card.

A computer system has a chassis, a plurality of interconnected panels mounted on the chassis in a manner defining an interior space at least partially encompassed by the panels, a circuit assembly, an electrically-powered fan within the interior space, and an energy conversion device mounted within the interior space. One or more of the panels has an airflow opening therein. The circuit assembly is mounted on the chassis within the interior space and includes a heat generating system component. The heat generating system component includes a surface from which energy in the infrared (IR) electromagnetic spectrum is emitted during operation thereof. The energy conversion device is configured for converting the emitted infrared energy to electrical energy and is electrically connected to the electrically-powered fan for providing the electrical energy thereto.

A routing device comprises a port accessible by a plurality of computers, processor-executable instructions configured for acquiring a DHCP-identified network address of a computer connected to the port in response to identifying the network address during monitoring of DHCP communication, and processor-executable instructions configured for configuring the port with an address route exclusive to the DHCP-identified network address in response to acquiring the DHCP-identified network address. Configuring the port includes creating a Classless Inter Domain Routing (CIDR) network address mask corresponding to the DHCP-identified network address and assigning the CIDR network address mask to the port.

Automatic route setup via snooping dynamic addresses

A system and method for automatically suspending power from an IEEE 802.3af Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) switch to one or more Powered Devices (PDs) in accordance with user defined power allocation policies is disclosed. The PSE switch includes a classifier to associate each switch port with a power allocation policy and assign the applicable power priority level. The IEEE 802.3af PSE switch also includes a power manager to selectively allocate power between the PDs in accordance with those policies during a power outage, for example. If the switch is unable to provide power to each of the PDs, power to ports associated with a relatively low power priority is suspended before suspending power to higher priority ports. The policies may be automatically distributed to and implemented by multiple devices throughout a network without an administrator manually configuring the priorities base on knowledge of the specific types of end nodes coupled to the various ports or their priorities.
