In an example embodiment, a system includes an inverter configured to operate in at least one of a charging mode or a drive mode, a cascaded direct current (DC)-DC converter, the DC-DC converter including a first portion of the inverter and at least one controller configured to selectively couple the first portion of the inverter to a first portion of the cascaded DC-DC converter during the charging mode, and selectively couple the inverter to a second portion of the cascaded DC-DC converter during the drive mode.

A vehicle side electrical connector is carried by the work tool coupler and configured to transfer electrical power to the electrical power storage system to charge the electrical power storage system. Such a work vehicle may be used in combination with an external charging station. The external charging station may include an electrical power source, a coupler receiver configured to mechanically interconnect with the work tool coupler, and a charging station side electrical connector configured to electrically interconnect with the vehicle side electrical connector when the work tool coupler is mechanically interconnected with the coupler receiver. The charging side electrical connector is configured to connect the electrical power source to the vehicle side electrical connector.

A control system for a work vehicle includes a power source with an engine and at least one motor configured to generate power; a transmission including a plurality of clutches configured for selective engagement to transfer the power to drive an output shaft of a powertrain of the work vehicle; and a controller coupled to the power source and the transmission. The controller has a processor and memory architecture configured to: initiate a transition for the transmission between a first transmission mode and a second transmission mode at a first shift point associated with an engine throttle shift function; determine a current engine speed; and generate and execute an engine speed command for the engine such that a commanded engine speed is a function of the current engine speed in accordance with the engine throttle shift function upon the transition of the transmission at the first shift point.

A work machine includes an engine for driving a primary working unit. At least one hydraulically powered auxiliary working unit is powered by a hydraulic pump. The engine and an electric motor both provide power to the hydraulic pump via a planetary gear set which sums the power inputs from the engine and the electric motor. The pump speed of the hydraulic pump is thereby decoupled from the engine speed of the engine.

An energy management control module is configured for communication with the vehicle controller. The energy management control module is configured to generate generator command data for the generator in a power command mode. In one embodiment, the energy management control module supports a first mode and a second mode. A first mode comprises the power command mode and a stored power extraction mode that are mutually exclusive modes for any sampling interval. In the power command mode of the first mode, the energy management controller is configured to generate generator command data for the generator based on a commanded motor torque and an energy storage power command (e.g., SOC command data) if the primary rotational energy of the internal combustion engine meets or exceeds the total vehicle load for a sampling interval.

The auxiliary shaft is rotated by an internal combustion engine. The transmission also includes a clutch assembly movable from a disengaged position to an engaged position. The clutch assembly includes a first clutch portion coupled to the input shaft and a second clutch portion coupled to the auxiliary shaft. The second clutch portion transmits rotational force to the first clutch portion only with the clutch assembly in the engaged position. The transmission also includes an electric motor including an electric motor shaft in geared relationship with the first clutch portion.

Nested radially and surrounding the two planetary stages are two SAHR disc clutches including pistons engaging inner and outer surfaces of a compact piston guide member. The third stage planet carrier defines a cap and is fixed to an axially outer end of the wheel hub. A third stage ring gear has an outside diameter approximately equal to that of the wheel bearings and has an inside diameter fixed to the housing by a planar, annular wheel bearing retainer plate that is fixed to an end of the housing.

This disclosure provides a method of controlling an electric drive powertrain system. The method includes providing an electric motor capable of running between a motor minimum speed and a motor maximum speed such that the electric motor can produce different amounts of torque between a first region defined between the motor minimum speed and a motor base speed and a second region defined between the motor base speed and the motor maximum speed. The method includes receiving a signal from operator inputs and determining a desired transmission output torque based on the signal received from the operator inputs. The method also includes determining a desired motor torque based on the desired transmission output torque, operating the electric motor at a current corresponding to the desired motor torque and producing a greater amount of torque at the motor base speed than at the motor minimum speed.

An overload prevention system and method for an electric circuit having a plurality of components is disclosed, where each component has a set of pre-computed parameters. For each component, monitored parameters are observed; a limited value is computed using the pre-computed and monitored parameters; and it is determined if the limited value reached a limit. If the limited value reaches the limit; the system limits one of the monitored parameters. Pre-computed parameters can include time constant and rated current; monitored parameters can include current; and limited value can be component temperature. A time constant, rated current and rated temperature can be pre-computed such that the temperature stays at or below the rated temperature when the current is substantially equal to the rated current. Per unit values can also be used such that per unit temperature stays at or below unity when per unit current is substantially equal to unity.

Overload prevention system to improve intermittent load capacity of electric drive applications

For each phase of a controller, semiconductor switches comprise a high side switch and a low side switch. A direct current voltage bus provides electrical energy to the semiconductor switches. A measuring circuit is adapted to measure the collector-emitter voltage or drain-source voltage for each semiconductor switch of the controller. A data processor determines that a short circuit in a particular semiconductor switch is present if the measured collector-emitter voltage or measured source-drain voltage for the particular semiconductor switch is lower than a minimum threshold and if an observed current associated with the particular semiconductor switch has an opposite polarity from a normal operational polarity. A driver simultaneously activates counterpart switches of like direct current input polarity that are coupled to other phase windings of the electric motor, other than the particular semiconductor switch, to protect the electric motor from potential damage associated with asymmetric current flow.
