Threaded connection partially in a self-locking engagement with an external shoulder capable to resist elevated torque

A threaded connection includes first and second tubular components, each including a respective male and female end. The male and female ends each include at least one threaded zone and finish in a terminal surface. The male threaded zone includes a first portion in which a width of teeth, CWTp, increases from a value CWTpmin corresponding to a width of a tooth closest to the terminal surface of the male end to a value CWTpmax corresponding to a width of a tooth furthest from the terminal surface. A width of teeth CWTb of the female threaded zone decreases from a value CWTbmax corresponding to a width of a tooth furthest from the terminal surface of the female end to a value CWTbmin corresponding to a width of a tooth closest to the terminal surface. The threaded zones cooperate in accordance with a self-locking make-up, with CWTpmin/CWTbmax&#x2265;0.2 and CWTbmin/CWTpmax&#x2264;CWTpmin/CWTbmax.

Tubular connection with self-locking threading used in the oil industry

A threaded connection for drilling or working hydrocarbon wells includes first and second tubular components with an axis of revolution, each including respective male and female ends. At least one of the male or female ends finishes in a terminal surface including a first abutment surface that can come into interfering contact when the connection is made against a second abutment surface provided on a shoulder produced on an opposing tubular component male or female end. At least one of the first and second abutment surfaces is hollowed out by a groove, defining an exterior abutment zone and an interior abutment zone. In the connection made state, the exterior and interior abutment zones are not coplanar, such that contact pressure of the interior abutment zone exerted in a vicinity of the groove is greater than or equal to a minimum value for contact pressure exerted in the exterior abutment zone.

Tubular component for boring and exploiting hydrocarbons wells and resultant threaded joint

An expandable threaded connection includes: first and second tubular components including respective male and female ends including respective first and second and third and fourth threaded zones, insertion regions, first and second annular tongues, prominent abutment faces, and first and second concavities; the first and second tongues are respectively engaged in the second and first concavities in a made up condition, the abutment face of at least one tongue in contact with at least one concavity; the male end including a first surface between the first threaded zone and the first tongue, and the female end including a second surface between the third threaded zone and the second concavity; in the made up condition, the first and second surfaces define an annular space include large and small radial dimension zones which, after expansion, can form a metal-metal contact seal, the first tongue bearing on the second tongue.

Expansible threaded joint and method for making same

A tubular component for a threaded connection includes at one of its ends a threaded zone. The end includes a terminal surface and the threaded zone includes, over at least a portion, threads including, when viewed in a longitudinal section passing through an axis of the tubular component, a thread crest, a thread root, a load flank, and a stabbing flank, such that a respective axial width of thread crests decreases in a direction of the terminal surface while a respective axial width of thread roots increases when considered in the same direction. At least one of a profile of the load flank and a profile of the stabbing flank of a thread portion includes, as a contral portion, a continuous curve provided with a point of inflection such that the profile with the point of inflection in convex at the thread crest and concave close to the thread root.

Tubular component for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells, and resulting threaded connection

A threaded tubular connection includes a female threaded portion at a first tubular component end and a male threaded portion at a second tubular component end, the female threaded portion including a female thread, at least one female sealing surface on its inner peripheral surface, and at least one female axial abutment surface, the male threaded portion including a male thread, at least one male sealing surface on its outer peripheral surface, at least one axial abutment surface, and a lip disposed between the sealing surface and an axial abutment surface located at a free end of the threaded portion distant from the thread, the male thread being made up into the female thread such that at least one male axial abutment surface is in contact with at least one female axial abutment surface, at least one male sealing surface being in interference contact with at least one corresponding female sealing surface, the portion of the lip between the sealing surface and the axial abutment surface being radially distant from a corresponding surface of the other threaded portion, at least one leak channel being provided in one of the threaded portions to place the chamber formed between the lip and the corresponding surface of the other threaded portion in communication with the interior of the connection.

Threaded connection comprising at least one threaded element with an end lip for a metal tube

A component used for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells which is substantially tubular in form, and including a first end configured to be connected to a second end of another component also used for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells. The first end includes a terminal portion including a first abutment surface configured to cooperate by interference with a corresponding abutment surface on the second end, and including a sealing surface configured to cooperate by interference with a corresponding sealing surface on the second end, the terminal portion being preceded by a threaded zone configured to be made up into a corresponding threaded zone of the second end. A compressible volume is provided in the thickness of the first terminal portion and partially beneath the sealing surface, to reduce radial stiffness of the terminal portion by at least 20%, while conserving at least 60% of axial stiffness.

Component for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells

A threaded connection includes first and second tubular components each with an axis of revolution. The first component including a male threaded end, the second component including a female threaded end, and both the male and female threaded ends finishing in a terminal surface. The threaded zones include, over a portion defined as in a self-locking make-up, threads, which before the self-locking make-up and when viewed in a longitudinal section passing through the axis of revolution of the first and second components, each include: a thread crest, a thread root, a load flank, and a stabbing flank. A width of the thread crests of each component reducing in a direction of the terminal surface of the component under consideration, while a width of the thread roots increases. A lead of the male stabbing flanks and/or load flanks is different from a lead of the female stabbing flanks and/or load flanks.

Set for producing a threaded connection for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells, and resulting threaded connection

A set for manufacturing a threaded connection, including first and second tubular components with an axis of revolution, one of their ends including a threaded zone formed on the external or internal peripheral surface of the component depending on whether the threaded end is of male or female type, the ends finishing in a terminal surface. The threaded zones include, over at least a portion, threads including, viewed in longitudinal section passing through the axis of revolution of the tubular components, a thread crest, a thread root, a load flank, and a stabbing flank, the width of the thread crests of each tubular component reducing in the direction of the terminal surface of the tubular component under consideration, while the width of the thread roots increases, profiles of the load flanks and/or the stabbing flanks of the male and female threaded zones, viewed in longitudinal section passing through the axis of revolution of the tubular components, each having at least one identical portion such that the male and female threads can be fitted one into the other over the identical portions when the first and second tubular components are made up one into the other. The identical portions of the male and female ends are radially offset with respect to each other.

Threaded connection for drilling and operating hydrocarbon wells

A threaded element of a component includes at least first and second threading portions each including threads each including a stabbing flank and a loading flank. The stabbing flanks and loading flanks of the threads of the first threading portion and the threads of the second threading portion are inclined in an opposed manner with respect to the radial direction.

Threaded element of a component with opposed threading portions and corresponding tubular threaded connection

A threaded tubular connection is provided. The connection includes a male tubular element provided with a male threaded portion and a female tubular element provided with a female threaded portion. The male threaded portion and the female threaded portion each include self-locking threads having a crest, a load flank, a stabbing flank and a root, a load flank lead of the self-locking threads being larger than a stabbing flank lead of the self-locking threads such that in a tightened position of the threaded tubular connection, the load flanks and the stabbing flanks of the male self-locking threads are engaged in tight contact with the load flanks and the stabbing flanks of the female self-locking threads. A transfer zone is axially disposed between the threaded portions and a free end of at least one of the tubular elements, while being axially spaced from the threaded portions.

Threaded tubular connection which is resistant to bending stresses

To produce a sealing contact between male and female threaded elements, a contact zone is provided, located between male and female threading portions separated from each other in an axial direction. The male and female elements have respective cylindrical portions that extend over the entire length of the contact zone. After expansion, a sealing contact is established between surfaces in two annular areas by a radial interference fit.

Method for producing a threaded tubular connection sealed by radial expansion

An assembly including two symmetrically-disposed expandable threaded tubular joints. The joints including a male tubular element at one end of a tube and equipped with a male thread, a first annular lip having a first axially abutting surface, a first inner surface and a first outer surface, and a second abutting surface; and a female tubular element equipped with a female thread, a second annular lip having a third abutting surface, a second outer surface and a second inner surface, and a third inner surface and a fourth axially abutting surface which, together with the second outer surface, defines an annular housing homologous to the corresponding first lip.
