An optical transmitter module and method for making the module utilizes a housing structure having an integrated lens. The housing structure includes an output opening, which has a central axis along a first direction, to receive an optical fiber. The optical transmitter module further comprises conductive pins that are attached to the housing structure such that the conductive pins extend from the housing structure in a second direction, which is substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The optical transmitter module further comprises a light source mounted on one of the conductive pins such that light from the light source is emitted along the first direction toward the integrated lens of the housing structure to transmit the light into the optical fiber.

Optical transmitter module with an integrated lens and method for making the module

In one embodiment, a lens structure has an object surface, an image surface, and an axicon mirror. The axicon mirror is defined by an inner diameter, an outer diameter, and a tilt angle, with the tilt angle being defined by a plane of the axicon mirror and the surface of the axicon mirror. The image surface is positioned within the inner diameter of the axicon mirror. The lens structure may be incorporated into an optical transmitter having a light source and a photodetector. The light source is positioned to transmit light toward the object surface of the lens structure, and the photodetector is positioned to receive light reflected from the axicon mirror. A method for producing lens structures with different optical attenuation properties is also disclosed.

An opto-electronic housing and an opto-electronic assembly. The housing includes an enclosure defining a cavity. An opening through a wall of the enclosure is adapted to receive a substrate. A mount projects into the cavity opposite the opening. The mount is adapted to support an opto-electronic device. Adjacent the mount is an optically transmissive region in a wall of the enclosure. An opto-electronic assembly also includes a substrate disposed in the opening and an opto-electronic device supported by the mount.

A method for controlling the attenuation of an optical element. A base material, such as a resin, is selected from which to fabricate the optical element. The base material has an intrinsic attenuation or intrinsic absorption spectrum. A predetermined concentration of a first type of dye molecule is then added to the base material to vary the intrinsic attenuation of the base material to achieve a predetermined absorption spectrum.

Method for controlling attenuation of an optical element

A monolithic optical module of injection-molded high temperature polymeric resin combines an optical turn of typically 90 degrees together with dual or triple beam paths. No additional piece parts are necessary for achieving the optical turn, since this occurs by total internal reflection (TIR), and no additional piece parts are necessary for dual monitoring, which is realized by means of an air-gap functioning as a dual beam-splitter plate. The monolithic optical module further includes integrally surfaces for accurate alignment of the module with external optical elements, and can additionally include integral optical elements, for example lenses and thin film coatings.
