A method for monitoring a location performed by one or more processors comprises receiving signals from a smoke sensor; determining one or more minutiae from the received signals; determining a time window based on the at least one determined one or more minutiae; characterizing one or more smoke or fire types in the determined time window based on one or more of the determined one or more minutiae; dynamically determining one or more alarm levels based on the characterized one or more smoke or fire types; evaluating at least one minutiae in the determined time window using the determined one or more alarm levels; and outputting an alarm signal if an alarm condition is determined.

A microprocessor controlled hazardous condition detection system with volatile and non-volatile memory containing a sensor package, the sensor package containing sensors exposed to the ambient environment, and an alarm element coupled to the sensor package through a microprocessor where the microprocessor includes a memory storage device containing a plurality of alarm thresholds stored therein, each of the plurality of alarm thresholds being associated with a predetermined set of levels in the ambient environment where the microprocessor receives periodic readings from the sensor package, the microprocessor conditions the received readings by removing a selected amount of noise and attenuation therefrom, selects and employs an optimized alarm threshold from a plurality of stored alarm thresholds and activates the alarm element upon detecting a threshold levels in the ambient environment greater than the selected alarm threshold.

An embodiment of the invention provides a method including detecting a select hazardous condition by at least one triggering alarm unit of a plurality of interconnected hazardous condition alarm units. An actuatable latch in the triggering alarm unit is switched from an unlatched state to a latched state. An audible alert is generated in all of the interconnected alarm units. A test switch is actuated to identify the triggering alarm unit. Actuating the test switch disables the audible alert in each alarm unit having an actuatable latch in the unlatched state. A reset switch is actuated in only one of the alarm units to reset the actuatable latch in each of the alarm units to the unlatched state.

In a wireless access control system, a method and system for providing indications of the state of a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM) to an observer using at least one indicator mounted on the WAPM. The WAPM preferably provides indications of the version number of the software installed on the WAPM. Additionally, the WAPM may communicate with a WPIM. The WAPM may indicate that it is attempting to establish communication with said WPIM, is engaged in an error test with said WPIM, or has lost communication with said WPIM, for example.

Cardholder interface for an access control system

A control for stopping the rotation of the output shafts of a plurality of multiplexed motors configured in columns and rows with the first connector of each motor in a given column connected in parallel and with the second connector of each motor of a given row of motors connected in parallel. Each motors includes a switch positioned to be actuated when the output shaft of the motor is in its home orientation. One contact of the switch is connected to a first contact of the motor and therefor receives power when the switch for the column is energized. The second connector of each switch in a given row are connected in parallel to a detector for detecting a change in electric potential. The detector will detect a change in potential when the rotating shaft of an energized motor rotates its output shaft to its home position thereby closing its associated switch.

In an access control system, a method and system for dynamic channel selection to select a channel for communication between a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM) and a Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM). A number of communication channels are available. The WAPM attempts to communicate over a first channel and selects a second channel if the first channel is unsuccessful. The WPIM scans all the available channels so that communication may be established regardless of the channel chosen by the system. Alternatively, the available channels may be segmented into groups and an individual WAPM may be assigned to a group of channels rather than a single channel.

RF dynamic channel switching method

A modular door access control system incorporates a plurality of wireless door modules. Access request signals are transmitted to a remote access control unit. The control unit transmits access authorizing control signals to a respective one of the modules. A newly installed module, in a selected mode, enters into communication with the unit. The unit in turn transmits an identifier to the module for use in identifying itself to the unit subsequently in response to a received access request.
