An power system for an electric motor vehicle includes a power electronics unit connected to battery-side terminals, motor-side terminals and power source-side terminals. The power electronics unit including a plurality of half-bridges, each of the half-bridges including a pair of switches, each of the half-bridges connecting to a respective one of the motor-side terminals, the power electronics unit being operable to direct current from a power source through an electric motor to a battery to charge the battery by repeatedly operating the electric motor in an inductor field building phase, and then an inductor field collapse phase. The power electronics unit is operable to supply current from the power source to electric motor to establish inductor fields in the electric motor in the inductor field building phase. The power electronics unit is operable to supply current from the electric motor to the battery upon a collapse of the established inductor fields in the electric motor in the inductor field collapse phase. At least one of the half-bridges of the power electronics unit includes or is directly connected to the first power source-side terminal.

Power electronics for voltage boost charging

A vehicle system includes: a drivetrain that includes an electric motor configured to drive rotation of a wheel; an input device that receives an input and outputs an initial throttle command responsively; an electronic control module that receives the initial throttle command from the input device and outputs an adjusted throttle command, wherein the adjusted throttle command is determined based on a natural frequency of the drivetrain; a first sensor that senses an output of the electric motor; and an inverter having control circuitry that receives the adjusted throttle command from the electronic control module and receives sensor data from the first sensor and controls power supplied to the electric motor based on the sensor data and the adjusted throttle command to counter torsional wind-up of the drivetrain.

An induction motor rotor shaft assembly may include an induction motor rotor shaft rotatable about a center axis, the induction motor rotor shaft including a hollow cylindrical base including an outer circumferential surface, an inner circumferential surface, a first axial end and a second axial end. The induction motor rotor shaft can include a helical structure extending about the center axis on or in the inner circumferential surface. The induction motor rotor shaft assembly may include a coolant supply for providing coolant inside of the hollow cylindrical base onto the helical structure for flow axially inside the hollow cylindrical base along the helical structure as the induction motor rotor shaft rotates about the center axis.

A hybrid drive assembly having an e-motor with a housing fixed stator and a rotor that connects to a transmission. The e-motor rotor includes a rotor support having a mounting flange with a stop at one end. A diaphragm spring clamps a second rotor ring, a rotor stack, and a first rotor ring against the stop to rotationally fix the rotor stack to the mounting flange. A drive plate assembly for connection to a crankshaft includes an output flange that is: (a) frictionally engaged to the diaphragm spring and/or the second rotor ring such that upon application of a torque spike the output flange rotates relative to the diaphragm spring and/or the second rotor ring, or (b) rotationally fixed to the diaphragm spring such that upon application of a torque spike the diaphragm spring rotates relative to the mounting flange, forming in each case an overload clutch.

Overload clutch for e-motor rotor

An electric motor is provided that has a stator and a rotor rotatably mounted in the stator. The stator includes a plurality of motorettes, each having a ferrous metal core segment, and a conductive winding on the core segment. The plurality of motorettes are arranged in a circular arrangement, and a plurality of wedges are provided, with one of the wedges being positioned in each interface between the conductive windings of adjacent ones of the motorettes that presses the conductive windings of the adjacent ones of the motorettes towards respective ones of the ferrous metal core segments. This provides an arrangement with minimal or no air gaps between the conductive windings and the core segments, or an electric insulator on each of the core segments.

The rotor includes a plurality of magnets and a plurality of radially extending channels extending radially outward from an inner circumferential surface of the rotor to provide fluid to the magnets. A method of constructing an electric motor includes creating a rotor rotatable about a center axis to include a plurality of magnets and a plurality of radially extending channels extending radially outward from an inner circumferential surface of the rotor to provide fluid to the magnets.
