Systems and methods of protection switching in a packet network based on signal/service degrade includes monitoring a packet network connection; determining performance of the packet network connection based on the monitoring; detecting the packet network connection has a signal/service degrade based on the determined performance, wherein the signal/service degrade is a condition where the packet network connection is operational, but the performance is experiencing a degradation; and, responsive to detection of the signal/service degrade, performing one or more of notifying nodes in the packet network and performing a protection switch at the packet layer based on the signal/service degrade. The performance can be a delay measurement. The delay measurement can be utilized to determine Frame Delay (FD), Frame Delay Range (FDR), and Inter-Frame Delay Variation (IFDV), and the degradation is when one or more of FD, FDR, and IFDV exceeds a threshold in a window.

Protection switching systems and methods in a packet network based on signal degrade

A method implemented in a time-bounded resource management system for managing a resource is described. The time-bounded resource management system includes a processor communicatively coupled to a database. The method includes storing each resource consumption event of the resource as a balanced pair of entries in the database, wherein the balanced pair of entries comprise 1) a first entry comprising a start time for the resource consumption event and a positive resource consumption amount and 2) a second entry comprising an end time for the resource consumption event and a negative resource consumption amount with the same magnitude as the positive resource consumption amount; receiving a query related to the resource; performing computations on entries in the database related to the query; and providing a result based on the computations as a response to the query.

Simplifying quantitative analysis of time-bounded resource consumption

A method of protection switching in a packet network based on signal/service degrade includes monitoring a packet network connection; detecting the packet network connection has a signal/service degrade including a condition where the packet network connection is operational, but experiencing errors below a threshold; and responsive to detection of the signal/service degrade one or more of notifying nodes in the packet network and performing a protection switch based on the signal/service degrade. The signal/service degrade is detected through one or more of i) determining a Frame Error Rate imputed from one or more of Bit Error Rate, frame events, and frame losses; ii) frame delay measurements; and iii) a combination thereof.

An Ethernet packet switch configured to manage one or more packet tunnels includes one or more ports; forwarding circuitry communicatively coupled to the one or more ports; and processing circuitry communicatively coupled to the forwarding circuitry, wherein the one or more packet tunnels are configured over the one or more ports, wherein each of the one or more packet tunnels has an associated maintenance endpoint (MEP), and wherein the processing circuitry is configured to manage the one or more packet tunnels based on performance characteristics determined through one or more of the associated MEP, intermediate switches, and a Network Management System.

Generic multi-layer provisioning service management layer systems and methods

Methods and devices for network modeling, service provisioning, and service management are disclosed. A network modeling method includes accessing information describing a set of nodes of a communications network, physical links physically connecting the nodes, and logical links logically connecting the nodes using the physical links. The method further includes, based on the information, creating a different connection group object for each of the physical links and for each of the logical links. Each connection group object includes a connection representing the link, a first endpoint representing a first node of the set connected to the link; and a second endpoint representing a second node of the set connected to the link.

Network modeling, service provisioning, and service management

If a selected packet switch connected to a neighboring packet switch makes first information identifying the neighboring packet switch available, element managers and processes retrieve the first information from the selected packet switch. The first information is derived by the selected packet switch from communication via a first protocol between the selected packet switch and the neighboring packet switch. If the first information is not available to the element manager and if the selected packet switch makes second information identifying the neighboring packet switch available to the element manager, the element managers and processes retrieve the second information from the selected packet switch. The second information is derived from communication via a second protocol between the selected packet switch and the neighboring packet switch and the first and second protocols are different protocols.
