Apparatus and methods for distributed processing of a check image are provided. A payee may submit a request to deposit a negotiable instrument. The request may be received at a first financial institution. The negotiable instrument may be a check. A transaction record may be generated at the time of the request. The transaction record may be based on information handwritten or printed on the negotiable instrument. The transaction record may be transmitted to a second financial institution. The second financial institution may conduct a fraud analysis based on the transaction record. The second financial institution may transmit a fraud indicator to the first financial institution. Based on the fraud indicator, the first institution may accept or deny the request of the payee. Apparatus and methods may distribute computing resources associated with detection of fraudulent negotiable instrument. The resources may be distributed among the first and second financial institutions.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems, computer-implemented methods, and computer program products for capturing elements of a negotiable instrument and generating a thumbnail image of the negotiable instrument for use in image recreation. In some embodiments, a method is provided that includes: (a) receiving an image of the negotiable instrument, wherein the image of the negotiable instrument comprises one or more elements that are used for processing the negotiable instrument; (b) capturing, using the image capture device, images of one or more elements of the negotiable instrument; (c) generating a thumbnail image of the negotiable instrument based at least partially on an image of the negotiable instrument; and (d) storing the images of the one or more elements of the negotiable instrument and the thumbnail image of the negotiable instrument in the database.

Embodiments of the invention are directed to systems, methods, and computer program products for capturing, processing, storing, and generating images of a check. In some embodiments, a system is configured to: receive an image of a check; generate a thumbnail version of the image, wherein the thumbnail version of the image is generated immediately after receiving the image; link the image with the thumbnail version of the image; store the image and the thumbnail version of the image, wherein the thumbnail version of the image is stored for a longer period of time than the image.

In this way, an entity may store limited amounts of image data from an original document and subsequently recreate the document image using document templates. As such, the invention may compile templates for image documents. Upon receiving a document from a transaction for storage, the system may store the metadata associated with that document, instead of storing the entire document as a high resolution image file. Using the template, in combination with the metadata, the system may recreate the image as a system generated image for user recall and reconciliation.

In one embodiment of the invention, the computer-implemented method determines a location of a check transaction and stores the location in an archive in association with the check transaction. The method then determines a location of a user and determines a list of check transactions associated with the location of the user. In some embodiments, the method provides the list of check transactions to the user. The method may also provide offers or recommendations to the user, such as an offer to establish a direct transfer instead of using a check in the future. The user and/or the provider of the method may also broaden or narrow the search results based on characteristics of the transaction.

Throttling of an iterative process in a computer system is disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention focus on non-productive iterations of an iterative process in a computer system. The number of productive iterations of the iterative process during a current timeframe is determined while the iterative process is executing. A count of the number of process starts for the iterative process during the current timeframe is stored. The count can be normalized to obtain a number of units of work handled during the current timeframe. A throttling schedule can be calculated, and the throttling schedule can be stored in the computer system. The throttling schedule can then be used to determine a delay time between iterations of the iterative process for a new timeframe. A formula can be used to calculate the throttling schedule. The throttling schedule can be overridden in accordance with a service level agreement (SLA), as well as for other reasons.

Method and apparatus for managing item sequence numbers in an item processing system. The invention provides for overrun prevention and management of item sequence numbers, which form a part of an image key. In example embodiments, a buffer is provided to determine how close a current item sequence number (ISN) is permitted to be to an overrun value. When the current ISN reaches the buffer value, new entries of documents are prevented or at least restricted from being processed. In some embodiments, a 'force mode' is provided in which a sorter can be made to start a new entry even if the buffer value has been exceeded. In such an embodiment, the system can be set up so that a hard stop is enforced when the ISN is within a certain range of the overrun value.

Method and apparatus for managing item sequence numbers in an item processing system

The present invention provides systems, methods, and computer program products for performing validation and clearance at a transaction item level for transaction received in a batch format. Each transaction of the batch is stored separately in a storage system, such as a logical database. Typically, image data and electronic data for a transaction are stored separately in the storage system and may be linked to each other. Each transaction is separately accessible and/or updateable. Each transaction stored in the storage system is separately analyzed to validate that the transaction is at least balanced. Transactions that determined to be balanced are cleared irrespective of a balance status associated with other transactions associated with the batch of transactions, such that transactions are individually cleared as opposed to being cleared in a batch format.
