A motion sensor includes an infrared detector having a single linear array of at least four detector elements disposed on a substrate. The motion sensor also includes an optical system to simultaneously direct electromagnetic energy from two or more curtains of monitored volumes onto the linear array of detector elements. The two or more curtains of the monitored volumes having a tilt angle from a vertical orientation of the motion sensor to create a quadrature horizontal spatial relationship between the monitored volumes. Signals from the linear array of detector elements are then processed to detect a quadrature phase relationship between the signals, and an indication of human presence is provided if a quadrature phase relationship is found.

Motion sensor using linear array of infrared detectors

A motion sensor includes an infrared detector with a first set of detector elements and a second set of detector elements. The motion sensor also includes an optical system to direct electromagnetic energy from a first row of monitored volumes spaced at a pitch in a first direction onto the first set of detector elements and to direct electromagnetic energy from a second row of monitored volumes spaced at the pitch in the first direction onto the second set of detector elements. The second row of monitored volumes has an offset from the first set of monitored volumes in the first direction and the first row of monitored volumes and second row of monitored volumes are substantially non-overlapping.

Motion sensor

A motion sensor has an infrared detector with a first set of detector elements coupled to a first channel and a second set of detector elements coupled to a second channel. A first optical subsystem directs infrared radiation from a first number of monitored volumes to the infrared detector and a second optical subsystem directs infrared radiation from a second number of monitored volumes to the infrared detector. Intrusion detection circuitry is coupled to both channels of the infrared detector and selects a set of peaks in the first channel and the second channel. It then calculates an alternation score based on a number of alternating peaks in the set of peaks, and indicates an intrusion detection based, at least in part, on the alternation score. The circuitry also determines a peak-to-peak period for the first channel and calculates a slope-synchrony measurement to modify the alternation score.

Motion sensor for occupancy detection and intrusion detection

A motion sensor has at least two tiers of monitored volumes that are offset from each other. Electromagnetic radiation, such as infrared light, is directed from the monitored volumes onto at least two sets of detector elements having separate outputs on a pyroelectric substrate of an infrared detector. As a warm object, such as a human or an animal, moves through the monitored volumes, the warmth from the object causes the voltage on the outputs of the infrared detector to change. The resultant waveforms are compared and if the two waveforms have a phase relationship corresponding to a critical phase angle that is based on the pitch of the monitored volumes and the offset between the tiers of monitored volumes, an animal-immune motion indication is generated.

Infrared detector

A security apparatus includes a body with a socket that includes a first magnetic material, and a mount with a stem that is formed to fit into the socket and includes a second magnetic material. If the stem is inserted into the socket, the body is held in place by magnetic attraction between the first magnetic material and the second magnetic material. The position of the stem in the socket determines an azimuth angle and an elevation angle for the body with respect to the mount. The first and second magnetic materials can be magnets or ferromagnetic materials, such as steel.

Magnetic mount for security device

A motion sensor includes an infrared detector with a first set of detector elements and a second set of detector elements. The motion sensor also includes an optical system to direct electromagnetic energy from a first set of monitored volumes spaced at a pitch in a first direction onto the first set of detector elements and to direct electromagnetic energy from a second set of monitored volumes spaced at the pitch in the first direction onto the second set of detector elements. The second set of monitored volumes have an offset from the first set of monitored volumes in the first direction.

Motion detection

A security apparatus includes a mount and a sensor body with a socket recessed into the sensor body at a first angle from a functionality plane. The mount includes a stem and a base adapted to be affixed to a wall. The stem extends from the base at a second angle from horizontal. The functionality plane is set at an angle from horizontal equal to the first angle plus the second angle if the stem is inserted into the socket with the first side of the stem in close proximity to the first wall of the socket, and the functionality plane of the sensor body is set at an angle from horizontal equal to the first angle minus the second angle if the stem is inserted into the socket with the first side of the stem in close proximity to the second wall of the socket.
