A method is used in managing alert thresholds. An integrated slider settings dialog is provided. An existing setting for the severity of an alert threshold is displayed by the dialog. A user is allowed to view and change the setting for the severity of the alert threshold by hovering over a slider thumb.

Managing alert thresholds

A method performed by a storage management computer includes (a) receiving a set of storage profile definitions (SPDs) from an administrator of a data storage system over a user interface, each SPD of the set of SPDs including (1) a storage profile name and (2) a set of storage policies assigned to that SPD, (b) providing the storage profile names from the set of SPDs to an environment management application, the environment management application being configured to manage environments that use storage from the data storage system, (c) in response to providing, receiving a selection of a particular SPD from the environment management application to be used in connection with a particular environment, and (d) provisioning a unit of storage from the data storage system to the particular environment in accordance with the set of storage policies assigned to the particular SPD.

Techniques for abstract profile definition to support information hiding

A method for use in facilitating Java communications is disclosed. A Java applet is caused to open a socket on a port number. A JSP having the port number is invoked. A hidden applet is generated, the hidden applet establishing a communication connection between the JSP and the Java applet by opening a socket connection on the same port number.

Method and system of facilitating Java communication

A method for use in managing software environment installation is disclosed. A set of storage systems is identified to be managed via a Flex based data storage management application. It is determined whether the Flex based data storage management application can communicate with every data storage system in the set of data storage systems. Based on the determination, it is determined whether to cause installation of a Java operating environment allowing the Flex based data storage management application to communicate with every data storage system in the set of data storage systems.

Managing software environment installation

A method for use in communicating between software environments is disclosed. A JavaScript connection is established between a Flex based operating environment and a Java based operating environment. Based on the JavaScript connection, a socket connection between the Flex based operating environment and the Java based operating environment is established. Based on the socket connection, remote procedure calls are executed between the Flex based operating environment and the Java based operating environment.

Communicating between software environments

A security system for a computer system imposes specific limitations on who has access to the computer system and to exactly what operations and data. Viruses are securely contained and prevented from expanding into areas where they can destroy stored programs or data. Viruses are also prevented from being introduced or executed in a large number of instances. The totality of computer functions is broken up into a set of events with an associated set of capabilities and different capabilities are assigned to each user depending on the particular job which that user is to do on the computer system. Also, security labels are placed on each data file and other system resources, and on each process. Further, a range of hierarchy/category labels (MAC labels) is assigned to each process to define a sub-lattice in which special capabilities can apply. Further, the hierarchy of labels is divided into a small number (for example 3) of regions, and a process operating in one region is generally not allowed to cross over into another region. Further, an owner of a data file is allowed to place restrictions on the file so that only users who posses certain privileges can gain access to the file.
