This disclosure provides a method and system to convert a first digital representation of a document including a first format to a second digital representation of the document including a second format. According to an exemplary method, a preexisting printed assessment is scanned to produce an image file and an educational assessment analysis system captures an image area associated with a question, processes the captured image area to automatically assign metadata associated with an independent assessment creation process to the captured image area, which is subsequently processed to generate an assessment based on the assigned metadata which conforms with a format consistent with the independent assessment creation process.

Method and system to attribute metadata to preexisting documents

A system for compiling a machine operable diagnostic system includes a header unit, a component unit, an effects unit, a test unit, and an instantiation unit. The header unit identifies general properties of a system from a generic description in an electronic format which includes at least one category of a plurality of variations. The component unit identifies a plurality of components of a modeled system from the generic description, and adds and separates the plurality of variations to the plurality of components, and each identified component includes at least one type of failure and a probability of the at least one type of failure. A system and method for determining handwritten character segmentation shape parameters for a user in automated handwriting recognition by prompting the user for a training sample; obtaining an image that includes handwritten text that corresponds to the training sample; sweeping the image with shapes corresponding to parameters to determine coordinates of the shapes in the image; segmenting the image into segmented characters based on the coordinates of the shapes; determining character segmentation accuracies of the parameters; and storing an association between the user and the parameters. The system and method can further include receiving a writing sample from the same user and utilizing the stored parameters to segment characters in the writing sample for use in automated handwriting recognition of the writing sample.

The presently disclosed embodiment provides an interactive tool for printed image artifact characterization that successfully combines the advantages from both a human visual system and automated image quality characterization. In the interactive tool provided, the user may specify coarse level information, such as the region of interest in a print image, to be examined by the automated image-quality characterization algorithm, which can then employ sophisticated algorithms, e.g. signal processing, feature extraction, estimation and classification, to find precise fine-level descriptors.

Systems and methods of determining a predicted usable life of components, such as a photoreceptor, associated with an imaging device. The systems and methods include a power source configured to increase an electric field across the photoreceptor. A sensor or array is configured to detect charge deficient spots (CDS) in a charge transport layer (CTL) of the photoreceptor as a result of increasing the electric field. The systems and methods are configured to determine the predicted useable life of the photoreceptor based on the detected CDS. The systems and methods are further configured to output a report of the estimation. The estimation is conducted at fixed or variable intervals throughout the life of the photoreceptor and/or imaging device.

A method and device detect printing defects on prints produced by an electrostatic printing device and, in response, place the electrostatic printing device into a diagnostic mode. While in the diagnostic mode, the method and device charge an image bearing surface of the electrostatic printing device to a uniform potential charge and disable all light emitting devices of the electrostatic printing device that could alter the uniform potential charge. Next, this method and device transfer marking material to the image bearing surface to create a test image and print at least one test patch by transferring the test image from the image bearing surface to a sheet of media. This method and device evaluate whether the test patch includes the printing defects and identify whether the light emitting devices of the electrostatic printing device are defective, based on whether the test patch includes printing defects.

Diagnostic method for determining imager contribution to printing defects

Methods and systems print a multi-color test pattern using a printing device to create a printed test pattern when the printing device is producing a printing defect. The methods and systems scan the printed test pattern to produce a scanned image and decompose the scanned image into color blocks using the computerized device. The methods and systems create intensity profiles of the color blocks using the computerized device and compare at least two of the intensity profiles of different colors to determine whether the intensity profiles indicate correlated printing defects using the computerized device. The methods and systems indicate, through the computerized device, whether a potential defect within a common printing element of the printing device or is located within one or more of the color printing elements of the printing device, depending upon whether the intensity profiles have correlated printing defects.

A system and method by which, in photoreceptor devices that use non-contact charging, an impending failure of a photoreceptor can be accurately estimated based on a determined thickness of a charge transport layer in the photoreceptor. The systems and methods may include measuring current delivered to the photoreceptor charge transport layer, measuring voltage of the photoreceptor transport layer, determining a slope of the charge device, determining the thickness of the charge transport layer based on at least one of the measured current value, voltage value, or charge device slope, and determining a photoreceptor replacement interval based on the determined thickness.

According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods and systems that incorporate a model predictive controller (MPC) in an image reproduction machine with known disturbance information. The MPC uses the control action at a current time in order to minimize the impact of an impending disturbance as well as to maximize current control performance. The impending disturbance is used by the MPC to determine an incremental change that combines steady state and transient state impact on the image reproduction machine. Disturbance such as print media type, image content type, physical dimension of the print media, weight of the print media, and print job data can be employed. Further, control of the image reproduction machine is generated in real time over a receding horizon, for the purpose of minimizing a cost function indicative of image variation, energy consumption, or the like.

Systems and methods of diagnosing a photoreceptor associated with an imaging device. The photoreceptor is configured to enter into a diagnostic cycle to complete a set number of cycles. A sensor or array is configured to a scan a component associated with the imaging device during each of the set of cycles to establish defect data. The defect data is analyzed to filter one or more charge deficient spots (CDS) from background noise in the defect data. The systems and methods determine whether the photoreceptor needs replacement based on the determined one or more CDS. The systems and methods are further configured to output a report of the determination. The determination is conducted at fixed or variable intervals throughout the life of the photoreceptor and/or imaging device.
