Systems and methods are disclosed for accessing data on a storage system. An apparatus, such as a data storage device or a computing device, may include a memory configured to store data. The apparatus is configured to determine an importance level for a file to be stored in the storage system. The data storage system includes one or more private storage clouds and one or more public storage clouds. The apparatus is also configured to generate a set of recovery data chunks based on the file and the importance level. The apparatus is further configured to store the set of recovery data chunks in the set of public storage clouds. The apparatus is further configured to store at least a portion of the file in the private storage cloud.

A computing device configured to facilitate on-boarding of an electronic device may comprise a processor and memory. The memory may store instructions that cause the processor to receive, over a public network, a first communication from the electronic device on a private network, comprising an address of the electronic device on the private network. A first identifier associated with the address of the electronic device on the public network and the received address of the electronic device on the private network may be stored in a persistent store. The computing device may then receive a first request from a browser and, based upon a second identifier associated therewith, retrieve the stored address of the electronic device on the private network. The retrieved address of the electronic device on the private network may then be sent, over the public network, in response to the received first request from the browser.

A method of providing a program recording to a user includes: accessing an application service provider that includes a program database via a first connection over a network with a user processor; selecting, with the user processor, a program recording to be received at the location of the user processor; providing the program recording selected with the user processor, at the location of the application service provider or a third location different from the location of the application service provider and the location of the user processor; and delivering the selected program recording to the location of the user processor.

Systems and methods are disclosed for accessing data on a storage system. An apparatus, such as a data storage device or a computing device, may include a memory configured to store data. The apparatus is configured to receive a request for a file stored in a storage system. The storage system includes a private storage cloud and a set of public storage clouds. The apparatus is also configured to determine whether the file is retrievable from the set of public storage clouds. If the file is retrievable from the set of public storage clouds the apparatus may determine whether access to the set of public storage clouds is faster than access to the private storage cloud and may retrieve the file from one or more of the private storage cloud and the set of public storage clouds.

Secure and remote operation of a remote computer from a local computer over a network includes authenticating a remote computer for connection to a computer over the network and/or a local computer for connection to a remote computer over the network; establishing a secure connection therebetween; and integrating a desktop of a remote computer on a display of a local computer. Communication of data over one or more networks may be managed by means of one or more connection servers which may also manage any or all of authentication, authorization, security, encryption and point-to-multipoint communications functionalities. Alternatively, computers may be connected over a wide area network without a connection server, and with or without a VPN. In any case, file structure integrating means are configured to integrate a file structure of accessible files accessed at a second or first computer, into a file structure contained at the first or second computer, respectively.

Applications, systems and methods for securely and remotely operating a remote computer from a local computer over a network while providing seamless, firewall-compliant connectivity. Secure and remote operation includes authenticating at least one remote computer for connection to at least one computer over the network and/or at least one local computer for connection to at least one remote computer over the network; establishing a secure connection between the at least one local computer and the at least one remote computer over the network; and integrating a desktop of at least one remote computer on a display of at least one local computer. An apparatus, method and service model are disclosed which simplify conventional methods for schedule recordings of television programs and enable users to control recording equipment from any location via the Internet. Entities connected to computer networks such as the Internet and web-browser software can schedule recordings of television programs and/or operate the recording equipment. In an example scenario, a user who maintains recording equipment at home may utilize the present invention from his or her workplace or vacation place, accesses a service provider website using her/his user name and password, views the a schedule of television programs provided by a broadcaster or other distributor of programming and selects the television programs to be recorded. The application service provider in turn transmits the selected television program information to a computer connected to a later described remote control unit to execute and operate the recording of selected programs. In this manner, the present invention enables anyone with internet access to remotely operate recording equipment to record television programs.
