A knotter drive apparatus for a baler includes a knotter gear drive shaft having a drive shaft axis and a shaft outside diameter. A plurality of knotter assemblies are mounted on the knotter gear drive shaft. Each assembly includes a first knotter gear sector including a first sector hub portion and a first sector radial portion. The first sector hub portion includes a central passage at least partly defined in the first sector hub portion for receiving the knotter gear drive shaft. The first sector radial portion extends radially outward from the first sector hub portion relative to the drive shaft axis, and has defined thereon a plurality of intermittent gear tooth segments. The first sector hub portion has a circumferential gap defined therein greater than the shaft outside diameter such that the first knotter gear sector is removable radially, relative to the drive shaft axis, from the knotter gear drive shaft.

One embodiment of the present disclosure is a multi-material needle assembly for a baler that has a core formed from a first material and a first side formed of a second material and coupled to the core. The first side is positioned at least partially along a wear zone of the core.

Multi-material needle for square balers

A baler having a frame, a feed system coupled to the frame, a baling chamber for receiving crop from the feed system, and a plunger assembly reciprocally compressing the crop. The baling chamber defines an extrusion axis therethrough. The plunger assembly is at least partially positioned within and movable with respect to the baling chamber. The plunger assembly has at least a first plunger motion aligned with the extrusion axis. The baler also includes a feed system cap having at least a first cap motion aligned with the extrusion axis, the first cap motion being synchronized with the first plunger motion. At least one of the plunger assembly and the feed system cap has a second motion that is not aligned with the extrusion axis.

A baler including a frame, and a compression system coupled to the frame, where the compression system at least partially defines a compression chamber. The baler also includes a feed pan at least partially defining a pre-compression chamber in operable communication with the compression chamber, where the feed pan includes an inlet defining an inlet area and an outlet defining an outlet area, and where the outlet of the pre-compression chamber is open to the compression chamber of the compression system. The baler also includes at least one actuator coupled to the feed pan, and a controller in operable communication with the at least one actuator, and where the controller is configured to adjust the inlet area and the outlet area independently.

A baler for use with a forming bale having a first bale attribute. The baler including a frame, and a compression system coupled to the frame where the compression system at least partially defines a compression chamber sized to receive at least a portion of the forming bale therein. The baler also includes a feed pan at least partially defining a pre-compression chamber, and where the shape of the pre-compression is adjustable, and where the pre-compression chamber is open to the compression chamber. The baler also includes a sensor configured to output signals representative of the first bale attribute, and a controller in operable communication with the feed pan and the sensor, and where the controller is configured to actively adjust the shape of the pre-compression chamber based at least in part upon the first bale attribute of the forming bale.

A baler includes a frame and a bale chamber structure that is supported by the frame. The bale chamber structure includes a plurality of walls that cooperate to define a baling chamber that extends along a longitudinal axis. The plurality of walls shape different sides of the bale. At least one of the plurality of walls includes a first segment panel that is moveably attached to the frame and a second segment panel that is arranged in a downstream direction from the first segment panel with respect to the longitudinal axis. The second segment panel is moveably attached to the frame independent of the first segment panel.

A bale drop detection mechanism for use with a baler having a rear aperture. The bale drop detection mechanism including a bale chute coupled to the rear aperture of the baler, where the bale chute includes an upper surface configured to support a bale ejected from the rear aperture thereon. The bale drop detection mechanism also including a bracket coupled to the rear aperture of the baler, a support member extending between and coupled to both the bale chute and the bracket, and a controller in operable communication with the bale chute and configured to detect a bale drop event based at least in part on the level of force being applied to the upper surface of the bale chute.

An intermittent drive system includes a rotatable output component, a rotating input component with a driving engagement element, a synchronizing ring and a decoupling ring. The synchronizing ring is coupled to the output element to rotate therewith. The synchronizing ring has a driven engagement element configured to selectively engage with the driving engagement element. The synchronizing ring has an alignment feature configured to rotationally align the driving engagement element with the driven engagement element and has a decoupling feature configured to selectively disengage the driving engagement element from the driven engagement element. The decoupling ring is selectively coupled to the input component and has a decoupling feature configured to selectively engage the decoupling feature of the synchronizing ring. The driving engagement element engages the driven engagement element only when both the alignment feature is rotationally oriented to align the driving engagement element with the driven engagement element and the decoupling features are rotationally oriented to allow the driving engagement element to engage the driven engagement element.

A baler including a frame, a compression system coupled to the frame, the compression system at least partially defining a compression chamber, a feed pan at least partially defining a pre-compression chamber, where the pre-compression chamber is in operable communication with the compression chamber, a first driven output shaft rotatable about a first axis of rotation, a second driven output shaft rotatable about a second axis of rotation, a lifting fork movable with respect to the pre-compression chamber and at least partially positionable therein, where rotation of the first driven output shaft, the second driven output shaft, or any combination thereof causes the lifting fork to move with respect to the pre-compression chamber, and where the first driven output shaft is operable independently of the second driven output shaft.

Baler feed system

A baler having a compression system for forming a bale includes a plunger that reciprocates within a baling chamber between an extended position and a retracted position. The baler also includes a controller configured to detect and calculate the amount of work exerted by the plunger as it reciprocates within the baling chamber. The controller generally calculates the work exerted by the plunger by determining the force applied to the plunger and the distance the plunger has traveled with respect to the baling chamber.

A steering system and method for a vehicle having steerable front and rear wheels has rear hydraulic steering device that may be coupled to one or more of the rear wheels. A rear valve assembly may hydraulically control the rear hydraulic steering device to steer the rear wheels based upon a rear steering command from a controller. In a manual steering mode, the controller does not determine a rear steering command for the rear valve assembly such that the rear wheels are freely rotatable. In a rear steering assist mode, the controller determines the rear steering command based upon, at least in part, the manual steering input.
